What are the implications of a My 13-month-old daughter was
just diagnosed with hypotonia
as she is not crawling,
walking or pulling to stand.
What no doctor can tell me is
what kind of future she may
have or how long she will
require physio, occupational
and speech therapy.

There are many different causes to hypotonia. Sometimes it is just benign hypotonia and goes away with PT. Why is she getting OT and ST? If she is having other issues other than hypotonia (ie speech, poor fine motor skills), then she needs to have bloodwork by Geneticist for genetic causes. Has she had any regression? You really should pursue this with different Drs (Geneticist, Neurologist, etc) and do some online research. My daughter was diagnosed when I found her symptoms online. |

Yes! Meningitis is very serious condition specially in neonates. It can give rise to many complications like hypotonia, hearing loss, visual loss, cerebral palsy, mental retardation, epilepsy etc. Normally a baby should be having good neck holding at this age. Don't be disappointed, sometime babies fully recover their deficits. Physiotherapy can help. Give olive oil massage. |

How to help a 6 month old baby What position, toys, books can
help?

Babywearing improves muscle tone due to the contant minor changes in position. Use the carrier with the least amount of support necessarily and as possible use less support. A wrap would be the most versitile for this, though they do have a bit of a learning curve. |
