...Husky is a general term for several breeds of dogs used as sled dogs. Huskies were originally used as sled dogs in northern regions but are now also kept as pets. The word "husky" is a corruption of the derogative term "Eskie", also given to the Esquimaux tribes that came into contact with Europeans who made early expeditions into their lands. The most common huskies are the Siberian Husky and the Alaskan Husky. Read full entry

How common is it for The a skin condition which
improves by giving Zinc
supplements?
Do you have this problem with
your siberian husky or know
anyone with a siberian husky
that has skin problems?
or is this very rare for the
siberian husky breed and most
don't have those problems like
they are known for eye and hip
problem.
I was just researching the
common health problems that a
siberian husky has. I want to
be educated about the common
natural health problems that
are most reported and you
should beaware of when you buy
a puppy from a siberian husky
breeder .
Should the breeder show you
the health history's for the
last 4 generations to prove
their dogs are a High class
health Quality dog.

Its not terribly common among well bred dogs, nor is it a critical life threatening disease. Most crucial are making sure Hips and Elbows have been certified free of dysplasia. You should be able to look up the dog's parents certification on OFA (www.offa.org) if they are in the US. Also you'll want to see a current (within a year) CERF certification. You should get, at minimum a 5 generation pedigree. All dogs in that pedigree should have hip scores. If this is your first dog, do a LOT of research. Siberian Huskies are fantastic dogs, but are not necessarily great dogs for a first time owner. Talk at great length to the breeder. If you find the breeder intolerant of being asked questions, go elsewhere!!! A good breeder wants to sell their puppies to well-educated homes. |

My husky is lonely during the I have plenty of time to
devote to my husky after
4:00p.m. But she seems to be
lonely while i'm gone. My
neighber says she will just
lay on the living room floor
most of the time i'm gone.
Should I adopt anoter dog to
keep her company? She is used
to living with two other dogs.
I just moved out of my parents
house. They have two dogs. I
can afford food and vet care
for another dog. That would
not be a problem. I just don't
want two lonely dogs on my
hands. This was a suggestion
from my neighber. She comes
over to let my husky out to do
her business at 12 noon.
Wow, I wish I could choose two
best answers.
Pebblespro- Thank you, I never
thought about doggie day care,
I'll check into it.
WM/ll- Funny thing is, I
already take her on two walks
a day, I didn't think about
her just being tired.
Thank both of you, and
everyone who left a asnwer.

Can Siberian Husky live Hi, we are planning to get a
siberian husky for ourselves,
we've read some information
about the dog and are quite
happy thusfar. I am planning
to go jogging once a day 3-4
times a week. However during
the week we work and we would
have to leave the dog alone in
our flat, how will the dog
handle that? Can he/she be
alone for long periods of
time? Resources would be
appreciated.
Thank you in advance.

Does the flat have a yard? I am upset that every answer for every husky question talks about how bad they are. They are a beautiful and wonderful breed, but you have to agree to make the commentment before buying one!! Ie...your husky may be OK with the lifestyle.....but without a fence you will have to walk him on a leash EVERY time he has to go to the bathroom or outside...they will run away....if he is not OK with the 3-4 jogs/week, trust me, he will let you know, by destroying everything you own. If you are willing to recognize this means he needs more attention or exercise and are willing to provide such, you can be a great husky owner, don't let them tell you otherwise! But you have to adapt to the dog! That being said, my dogs are in crates sometimes 8+ hours/day (I usually come home for lunch but can't always) and they are more or less fine - the days I don't come home for lunch, they are crazy when I get home and need a lot of exercise and attention. Most times I leave my older one out (1.5-2 years), and she is almost always fine. It will depend on your particular dog's personality what they will do - and start in small doses...leave for 30 minutes, 2 hours....etc until they are ready. And with this breed, I am completley convinced you will evenutally need 2 to make a pack, so be prepared for that (your sibe will let you know) So basically, yes they can be alone for periods but be prepared to make up for it....they are very much like kids..... |
