Alternative heating/coolingoptions for house at lowercosts than regular?
The bill for heating and cooling for the house is like $400. it is crazy- are there good, cheaper, reliable alternatives?
to reduce your bill, you could make sure there is a working vent in your attic, and put a fan in it to pull the hot air out of the top of your house. they can be set on a thermostat so they are only on when it gets hot. make sure all your windows have light-colored blinds/shades, and keep them closed, especially on the sunny side of the house. that will keep your house cooler. If you live in an area where it cools off a lot a night, open your windows in the evening to cool your house. set your thermostat at 72* and wear shorts at home to keep cool. Try not to use your oven very often, it can really heat up the kitchen. Cook on the grill or in the microwave as much as possible. Lastly, repair your AC, or get a new one if you can. The one you have may be run down and not working properly. Maybe it just needs to be cleaned. a $100 repair bill may save you hundreds over the summer.
How do I find out whichthermostat will work with myheating/cooling system?
I've got a Ruud heating/cooling system with a heat-pump in my home. I want to install a modern digital, programmable thermostat. The dealer has some, not really what I want, at an outrageous price and will offer no advice. Lowe's and Home Depot have a wall full of them at good prices but nobody to tell me which ones will work and which ones will not. Any advice?
I had a Rheem. Ruud is the same company from what I can tell. I ended up with a Hunter thermostat that was specifically designed for heat pump systems. The main difference between a heat pump thermostat and the others, seems to be the heating/cooling reverser and the presence of an emergency heat mode.
How much would it cost toinstall a centralheating/cooling air systeminto a house?
I am thinking of buying a house. The only thing holding me back is the heating source. The house has forced air from gas. How much would it cost to install a central heating/cooling system into a 2,300 SqFt home?
Probably about $8000, but there are many other factors to consider. It could be more or less, and if you get an energy efficient system, you may get a rebate from your state.
