which World War II action wasthe greater blunder: Germanyattacking Russia or Japanattacking Pearl Harbor?
Both military decisions have to rank amongst the most egregious military mistakes of all-time... opening up the Eastern Front brought in the heretofore neutral Soviet Union and bombing Pearl Harbor brought in the heretofore neutral United States. which decision (only a few months apart in 1941) was relatively worse?
Both decisions may be historically referred to as military mistakes however tactically they were cleaver and timely decisions. First, the Germans attacking the Soviet Union. Mussolini made a blunder in Yugoslavia which delayed the German attack. Another mistake was after the Germans attacked the Russian citizens initially welcomed the German invaders as welcome relief to the ruling Soviets but the Germans treated the Russian peasants like slaves. The combination of an attack much later than the German high command had planned as well as the treatment of the Russian citizens would doom the Germans to suffer a severe blow from an early and severe Russian winter not to mention that the German troops were not prepared for harsh weather and many German soldiers froze to death. Second, the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor. I think the surprise attack was a tactical victory for the Japanese Empire. I feel had the Japanese finished the job they would have taken the Hawaiian Islands and this would have not only been a great victory but would have also given the Japanese a launch pad to attack the mainland USA. History shows that the attack on Pearl Harbor only woke up a sleeping giant in the USA which ultimately led to the downfall of the Japanese Empire. Considering both military campaigns I strongly feel that the timing of the German attack on Russia was the most egregious mistake during WWII.
Why was there a greater senseof Nationalism in Germanyduring the 19th century?
While there was little to no feeling of nationalism in Italy at the same time-period?
Are you referring to Fascism during the 20th century? Hitler and Germany Mussolini and Italy Franco and Spain Spain had a civil war 1936 Italy invaded Ethiopia in 1935 Germany invaded Czechoslovakia and Poland in 1939 The fascist propaganda in Germany was almost certainly superior to that of Spain and Italy. Propaganda is the single most important stimulant to mass commitment.
