Her father is Italian American, and her mother is American of Irish and Welsh ancestry. Carangi was considered by some to be the first supermodel, although that title has also been given to others, including Janice Dickinson and Dorian Leigh. Gia Carangi was one of the top models of the late 1970s and early 1980s. She was sign with Wilhelmina modeling. Today's average annual salary for Wilhelmina high fashion models is $520,000. Since Gia was a top model, her salary may have been more than that. |

Why is Gia Carangi never you never hear anyone talk
about her in "today's" fashion
industry.
it's as if it's a tabboo to
speak of her, like as if she
never lived.
everone tends to mention the
models who came before her and
the models who came after her,
but no one ever mentions Gia.
why is this?

People think that Gia Carangi put the fashion industry to shame simply because of her drug addiction, and the way she had died (AIDS). I saw a television program once long ago with Cindy Crawford, she had spoke of Gia very crudely, the program was supposed to be based on the glorious life of a supermodel so talk of Gia was far & Few. No one ever really cared much for her, everyone was jealous of her because she made a statement of beauty back in the day. The only person who I believe truly loved her as a friend, would have to been Francesco Scavullo. Also it is just the fact that word didn't get around of her death, she kind of just disappeared into the atmosphere. |
