...Geography (from Greek γεωγραφία - geographia, lit. "earth describe-write") is the study of the Earth and its lands, features, inhabitants, and phenomena. A literal translation would be "to describe or write about the Earth". The first person to use the word "geography" was Eratosthenes (276-194 B.C.). Four historical traditions in geographical research are the spatial analysis of natural and human phenomena (geography as a study of distribution), area studies (places and regions), study of man-land relationship, and research in earth sciences. Reprint of a 1964 article. Nonetheless, modern geography is an all-encompassing discipline that foremost seeks to understand the Earth and all of its human and natural complexities—not merely where objects are, but how they have changed and come to be. As "the bridge between the human and physical sciences," geography is divided into two main branches—human geography and physical geography.http://web.clas.ufl.edu/users/morgans/lecture_2.prn.pdf Read full entry

Geography?
My friend keeps saying her
grandad is a geography
professer and an expert in
plate tectonics, and amoungst
other things claims he
discovered a geological ice
age.
None of this sounds right,
particually the last bit,
surely thats geology, not
geography, physical geography
only deals with the earths
physical features and
boundaries? I dont think its a
deliberate lie, i just dont
think shes getting it quite
right.

Some univeristies do not have a geology department, but may include the teaching of geology as part of physical geography - so perhaps that is where the confusion arises. |

Geography is the subject that goes hand-in-hand with History, and history is the base of the world. Without history, how would we know what mistakes not to make, and Geography helps us with this. Geography is understanding the world, and, if carried through to Higher Education Geography can help you with Studies such as Sociology, and even Law. Geography can be the discovery of new things and the understanding of old. I think it is an essential academic subject to take, as it can also help develop your skills in other subjects such as English & Literture (s.p) |

Im not sure if i understand your question buttt... In Mexicos Coastal cities the peoples life is more relaxed and the work atmosphere tends to be more casual......maybe the beach, good weather, etc etc make it happen just like in Miami, Honolulu and Rio de Janeiro. In the Bigger and northern cities the people could be a lil bit formal, and or business oriented. Like in Chicago, Detroit or Sao Paulo in Brazil. Northern states in Mexico (which are dry and have no natural resources) are more developed than those in the south (Excepting the US MEX boarder cities)....some say because the lack of resources the ancient people in the northern states must work harder to be prepared for the dry and winter seasons than those in the south that have everything they need year round. |
