genetic disorder??
i haven't been to a geneticist
and never had a good reason to
see one. neither me or my
partner have any common
genetic disorders in our
families that we know of.
but i'm always seeing
television shows and hearing
stories of children being born
with, for example, dwarfism
and other rare disorders when
the parents didn't have the
disorder in their families..
is there a good chance that my
child could have any rare or
common disorders?
i'm still pregnant so i can't
have it examined or evaluated
yet.

Yes, you can have the baby evaluated. You can have either a CVS test (I just had one of these at 12 weeks..it wasn't that bad) or you can have an amniocentesis. It is a possibility that your child may have it, which is exactly why I had it done for me...I am 36 so, it was knowing what is going on BEFORE it happened. |

Do Hutchinson Gilford Progeria Syndrome. It makes kids age really, really quickly. It's devastatingly sad but there's also the morbid fascination side of it when you get to go find photos. Only thing is that it's not as well characterised as the ones the other person mentioned. If you want another easy one do muscular dystrophe, which is X linked and fatal. |

What genetic disorder is my biology teacher gave us a
blank karyotype sheet and a
bunch of chromosomes to cut
out and we have to figure out
the disorder. when i cut and
glued the pieces i found that
there was a missing 12th
chromosome, but i cant find
the genetic disorder that this
lack of chromosome 12 causes.
