...A fish is any aquatic vertebrate animal that is typically ectothermic (or cold-blooded), covered with scales, and equipped with two sets of paired fins and several unpaired fins. Fish are abundant in the sea and in fresh water, with species being known from mountain streams (e.g., char and gudgeon) as well as in the deepest depths of the ocean (e.g., gulpers and anglerfish). Fish............?
Do you think they should split
the fish catagory into
saltwater and freshwater and
then other stuff?
Would make sense to me but i
dunno
Where can you make
suggestions? lol
But for the people that
regularly answer these
questions it would be so much
easier. I mean, i dont know
anything about marine
aquariums and stuff.
It might also help to
discourage people that answer
the questions without having
any idea what they are talking
about :P

No... Maybe you've noticed, but there aren't a whole lot of questions in here... Splitting it into two categories means two things: you will have two very slow moving boards instead of one relatively sluggish board, and it would be a total pain for the people that have (and answer) in both saltwater and freshwater tanks... I think it would be better if it was called aquariums or aquatic pets, so it would encompass plants, corals, inverts, maintenance, ponds, and equipment, as well as preventing questions about fishing, cooking/eating fish, and others like that... Soop Nazi EDIT: It is much easier to skip over a saltwater question than it is to switch back and forth between two categories though... I don't think we need to prevent unknowledgeable posters at the expense of the knowledgeable ones either... If somebody says something wrong, either email them, or post that you disagree... LOL, Emily, actually, you wouldn't... that's a statement, not a question... :~) I know, lots of people do it, and it gets really annoying... |

Fish?>?<>?
Ok..I have just learned that a
goldfish would not do good in
a goldfish bowl without pumps
and filters so what kind of
fish would do ok in this kind
of environment

As long as the fish bowl is at least a gallon, a person may keep one albino corydora, one dwarf African frog and a male Betta. Feed the 3 of them freeze dried blood worms, just once a day. Once a week, empty out 1-2 cups of water. Once every 6 weeks, put 2 cups of old water aside with the fish and frog in it and replace the dirty water with room temperature water. Try to keep a peace lily growing in the water to absorb nitrites from the water and the fish and frog will also sit on the roots of the plant. Use a plastic saucer like is placed under house plants and cut an x in the middle of it. Then insert the plant through it and the roots into the water. |

Fish recipes for someone who I don't mind fish. I really
like salmon baked on a cedar
plank, and tuna salad - I love
fish and chips.
However, I hate anything that
tastes or smells fishy. I
don't know which kinds of fish
are more likely to have that
smell and taste - or if its a
certain way of
packaging/preparing before
buying that makes fish more
likely to taste like that.
I stay away from making fish
because of it, but I would
really like to eat it more and
try different kinds.
Any recipes or tips on buying
fish?

Start off by using boxed fillets(generally white fillets are the best to begin with) or filleted and sliced fresh fish from your local supermarket. This way there's barely a fish smell , if at all.Once you get used to (fall in love!!) with these then you could progress onto buying whole fish and eventually - even gut them yourself! Just kidding, but here is a fantastic recipe: Pan fry fish fillets until done and keep warm. (I love to use fresh, filleted Atlantic Salmon but frozen fish works perfectly as well) Gently heat about 1/2 a cup of thickened cream. When it reaches a sauce like consistency, add in 20g butter (regular, salted)and 1 1/2 Tablespoons fresh lemon juice. Continue stirring and cooking until butter is melted and the desired consistency is reached. Switch off stove and add in a little chopped fresh cilantro or parsley and a quick grind of black pepper. Serve immediately spooned over fish with a greek salad on the side. ENJOY! |
