...Unlike eminent domain, expropriation takes place beyond the common law legal systems and refers to socially-motivated confiscations of any property rather than to taking away the real estate. The term appears as "expropriation of expropriators (ruling classes)" in marxist theory, or as slogan "Loot the looters!", very popular during Russian October Revolution Orlando Figes. A People's Tragedy: Russian Revolution. 1996, ISBN 0-7126-7327-X. Read full entry

If the government limits The regional government is
expanding the main
thoroughfare in front of a
commercial property, therefore
limiting access to the
property. They will not allow
vehicles to make a left turn
into the property, or a left
turn out. Although they claim
safety to be a reason for this
proposal, is this still an act
of expropriation?
No land from the property

Is there a difference between in my mind

taxation) is supported by Adam
Smith ("father" of the
capitalism) and enacted by
Teddy Roosevelt (Republican)
- expropriation is a failed
communist idea.

Hate to tell you but progressive taxation goes against the grain of our republic democracy. The motto for our democracy is the will of the majority with respect to the equality and fairness of the minority. Progressive taxation is just the opposite of that. The majority (middle class/poor) wills it and the minority (rich/middle class) have to deal with being treated differently. The rationale is that the wealthy benefit from the government programs more than the others in the nation....which is bunk! A flat tax rate would be the only way we can redeem this but since that means a tax increase for those on the lower rungs, this is not popular. |

It will probably work out very well for Bolivians because like Chavez in Venezuela, Morales is channeling the revenue from the state appropriations to programs that work for the people of Bolivia. This is what he was elected to do and unlike our politicians here he actually kept good on his electoral platform and promises. This is in direct opposition to the FTAA agreements that the US tried to ram through which would exploit the people there, privatize the water (Bechtel) and make people's lives miserable. It probably won't be the best for corporate interests like Bechtel etc. but those corporations have no more loyalty to the economy of the US than they do to the economy of the Marchall Islands... so we should support the indigenous peoples of Bolivia and others, for it is thier resources and they are using them to benefit their country, thier people. viva Morales! |
