...The European Rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus) is a species of rabbit native to south west Europe (Spain and Portugal). It has been widely introduced elsewhere often with devastating effects on local biodiversity. According to the Australian website http://www.feral.org.au/conten t/species/rabbit.cfm , "The rabbit originated in Spain and southern France." According to the British website http://www.bbc.co.uk/nature/wi ldfacts/factfiles/198.shtml , "They live on heathland, open meadow, grassland, woodland, the fringes of agricultural land and dry sandy soil, including sand dunes, but they avoid coniferous forests." Both of the mentioned websites are very interesting reading and more fully answer every aspect of your questions. |
