...Compared to ethnography, the study of single groups through direct contact with the culture, ethnology takes the research that ethnographers have compiled and then compares and contrasts different cultures. The term ethnology is credited to Adam Franz Kollár who used and defined it in his Historiae ivrisqve pvblici Regni Vngariae amoenitates published in Vienna in 1783.Zmago Šmitek and Božidar Jezernik, "The anthropological tradition in Slovenia." In: Han F. Vermeulen and Arturo Alvarez Roldán, eds. Fieldwork and Footnotes: Studies in the History of European Anthropology. 1995. Kollár's interest in linguistic and cultural diversity was aroused by the situation in his native multi-lingual Kingdom of Hungary and his roots among its Slovaks, and by the shifts that began to emerge after the gradual retreat of the Ottoman Empire in the more distant Balkans.Gheorghiţă Geană, "Discovering the whole of humankind: the genesis of anthropology through the Hegelian looking-glass." Dear Naya, Here is a good start: This is a link to the library of congress: Goto http://www.loc.gov/index.html Then search for "Himalayan studies". Clik on the first link you get as a result and that will give you a whole listing of bibliographies on this topic. You can modify your search accordingly to find something more specific. Here is the specific link for the above search, though I don't know if it will work right, so the above is probably the best place to start: http://search.loc.gov:8765/que ry.html?col=loc&sc=0&ws=0&la=e n&qm=0&st=1&nh=10&lk=1&rf=0&oq =&si=0&rq=0&qc=&qt=Himalayan+s tudies&search_button=SEARCH Good luck and I hope this helps. PS. Also just try looking for a publication listing first on google, then go for specific topics... :) -Marc |
