should dogs be able to go on lunges. why lounge

If you are referring to a lunge line, like they use with horses, yes. It allows the dog to expend excess energy. However, make sure you reverse the direction, to equalize the muscles used. It also has him out with you, and running without pulling.

How to teach big dogs to beconsiderate of small dogssize?
I have a great dane and am getting a small dog (12 pounds). He is very considerate of other dogs when socializing. But- just in case I would like to ask anyone who has a big dog and small dog how they got there big dog to be considerate (not step on, not bite, and to be easy playing) of the small dog. I would like to know about how people taught their big dogs that. Also I would like to ask how to introduce a big dog to a small dog. We are getting our small dog second, since we already have a big dog. Does that make a difference? Thank you.
I used to have two grooming clients. One a great Dane (who has passed away) the other a Papillon (still with me). The Dane used to sit and whimper at the Papillon sitting in his second story drying cage. One day the owner of the Papillon asked if it would be OK to put her little dog down near the Dane for a picture. She did and the Dane was so thrilled he immediately dropped into the play posture, inviting the little guy to play. I have had several Danes over the years at the groom shop and have only ever seen the gentle side of these giants. A well socialized dog seem to always know what is appropriate to the size of the smaller babies. Just make sure that you introduce your Dane to the new baby outside of the home and then take them both back home together. Never just drop a new dog of any size into a home where an existing pet has residence.
How can I fix my dogs unusualbehavior?
My dog is a minituare Schnauzer, but he's really big for a minituare. Well my dogs problem is that he always barks and growls at other dogs, even ones that are twice his size. He can't confront other dogs because there either scared of him, or they get pissed off at my dog. There are only a few dogs my dog confront calmly. I think my dog only growls because he's excited, because once he meets the dog he's very gentle and just sniffs around. How do I fix my dogs problem, I know one way to fix it is to get another dog for him to play with. But my family does not want another dog. It's hard to introduce him to dogs because people just walk away at my barking dog lol.

i have a m. schnauzer myself, and he is like that too. its a natural thing in their breed. especially if your dog is not used to being around other dogs, like mine. i dont think you CAN actually fix it, maybe just train him. schnauzers really are aggressive towards other dogs anyway, so its up to you whether you want your dog to change or just be ''natural''. i'm fine with my dog just like that. i pretend he's protecting me . :)

In response to where to find Old English Sheepdogs in No. Nevada. There is/was a very reliable breeder in Lemmon Valley (No of Reno). I purchased, many years ago, from them. They were reliable and their stock of show quality. During those years they sold for $600....I am sure much more costly now. However, there are always just pet stock in litters and would go for less. Direct a note to animal control in that area and they should know of that breeder, if still there.

Cindy in VA.'s response

As an RN, I worked in out-pt Mental health for 30 yrs. and know this has worked for clients with the same problem as yours. It sounds to me as if the true service your dogs provide for you is emotional support - and that is a legitimate service that dogs can provide. Talk to your doctor about the emotional support your dogs provide for you. He or she may be willing to write a letter explaining your emotional need to have these dogs as, in your words they, "are the only thing keeping me hanging in there". Hopefully this will change the opinion of the church and enable you to keep your dogs. Good luck and God Bless you.

check ups while young and healthy semi annual when it gets older. If it developes a disease that needs monatoring, diabetes for example, it will need to see a vet more often. When the dog gets ill and injured, and it WILL get ill and injured it needs a vet. Also dental care. To give your dog the best chance at good health it will essentially need four things. Vet care, spay/neuter, premium pet food and fresh clean water. Dog are not cheap to own.
