...Originally founded by Chong Moon Lee and H. H. Huh (the technical designer), Diamond Multimedia was merged (after a long-time companionship) with S3, Incorporated in 1999. The merger was mostly due to S3's willingness to expand their trade from simply producing graphics chipsets to retail graphics cards. The act is somewhat similar with the 1999 3dfx purchase of STB Technologies. The merger was hoped to boost the company's overall capabilities by combining the resources of S3 and Diamond, who were quite close partners over the preceding years. Unfortunately things did not go so well. The greatly anticipated S3 Savage 2000 was a failure, and the excitedly growing 3D sound card market nearly fell apart with the loss of Aureal Semiconductor. What is the relation between Why do they manufacture the
same, say, ATI Radeon 2600 XT?
I'm really confused! Tried to
google, but found nothing that
tells me about this.
I'm trying to purchase an ATI
Radeon 2600 with 512 MB RAM.
From which manufacturer should
I purchase? Which is better?
Thanks.

If you check some other websites, you will notice other brands such as Sapphire, MSI, etc. also manufactur cards that title Radeon XXXX. The manufacturers vary, but the GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) is the same company, ATI in this case. Even if 2 cards have the same GPU, (in your case the Radeon HD 2600XT), it doesn't mean the cards are the same. Every manufacturer makes the cards differently (depending on cost and performance), thats why 2 different cards with the same GPU have different specs, such as an Diamond Radeon HD 2600XT maybe has 512MB of RAM and an MSI HD 2600XT Radeon only has 256MB. You have to compare the technical details of the cards to see what suits your needs most. What you have to look out for: - You want to have a good amount of RAM (most new cards <512MB type: GDDR3) - GPU frequency and other functions as stream processors and shader frequency, some manufacturers overclock the GPU on their cards - Pixel-Pipelines (the more, the merrier!) - GPU features, such as DX10 & OpenGL 3.2 support, Shader model and full screen Anti-Aliasing As for what manufacturer: Diamond is quality wise pretty good, but Sapphire, HIS, or MSI are to, if you don't have a budget I'd get the most expensive on, but check the specs first, and compare. Here's the specs for you Diamond Radeon HD 2600XT: * GPU: ATI Radeon™ 2600XT * Bus Type: PCI-Express * Core Clock: 800 MHZ * Memory Size: 512MB * Memory Configuration: 16Mx32 GDDR3 * Memory Interface: 128-Bit * Memory Speed: 1.4 GHz * Peak Pixel Fill Rate: 19.2 Gpixels/sec * Peak Memory Bandwidth: 22.4 GB/s * API Support: DirectX® 9.0 and 10.0, OpenGL * Display Formats: Dual DVI + HDTV-out * 128-bit GDDR3 memory interface * High-speed 128-bit-HDR (High Dynamic Range) rendering * Up to 24X Custom Filter Anti-Aliasing * Support for Microsoft® DirectX® 10 & Shader Model 4.0, OpenGL 2.0 Sorry for the long rant, but hth!! |

Will the Diamond Multimedia 2.79 ghz
2 gb ram
current graphics card: nVidia
geForce FX 5500
|
|

It sounds like you have the exact same computer that I used to have. Yes, that video will work, seeing as I think the FX5500 comes in PCI only. Just make sure that the X1650PRO is PCI interface and it will work just fine. |

You may never get it. One of the biggest rebate companies went into bankruptcy and none of those rebates are likely to be fulfilled. You can click the link below to see the status of your rebate, assuming the company is still in business. The second link is to a forum discussing problems with Diamond MM rebates. It may just take a very long time to get your rebate. |
