...Diabetes mellitus ( or ; or )—often referred to simply as diabetes—is a condition in which the body either does not produce enough, or does not properly respond to, insulin, a hormone produced in the pancreas. Insulin enables cells to absorb glucose in order to turn it into energy. In diabetes, the body either fails to properly respond to its own insulin, does not make enough insulin, or both. This causes glucose to accumulate in the blood, often leading to various complications. Read full entry

Hi there...in order to confirm if a cat has diabetes there needs to be a blood glucose test done from your vet. If the blood sugar is elevated the vet will then be able to give you the appropriate course of care for the cat. Here are a few website articles on feline diabetes mellitus: http://www.sniksnak.com/cathea lth/diabetes.html http://www.thecatsite.com/Heal th/83/Feline-Diabetes.html http://www.felinediabetes.com/ newdiag.htm http://www.netpets.com/cats/re ference/diabetes.html |

My husband, Richard is a type 2 for the past 15 years. Due to his high BG and high blood pressure. The main concern is Bg which is at 200. After much pursuasion, I ask him to quit his highly stressful job as a hotelier. I help monitor his his diet, low carb, moderate exercise in the garden and reduce stress. It does not reduce his BG. Our friend, Joey suggested us to try as supplement, Dbethics which has helped many to reduce their BG. I was not interested but later decided to try. After about 10 days my BG drop to 105 and I went to see my endocrynologist who advised me to reduce my insulin by 5 units in the morning and another 5 units in the evening. After 2 months I did my HBA1C tests and was amazed that it has drop by 3 points. My doctor is equally surprised and has requested me to continue to monitor my Bg closely. Hope it can help you. |

My granddaughter E-mailed me asking for a donation to your cause. She will be riding in the Tourde Cure. I was not able to connect to the links, would you let me know how I can donate via on line with a credit card? Her name is Lyla Lawless in Maryland. Thanks Juanita Lawless
Again i will ask, my friend is diabetic and yes he takes insulin. I notice that he aweats alot and has a sweaty odor at most all of the time. It is on his clothes, bedding and the smell was on a blanket that he covered with while watching tv at my house. Is this unusual and what can cause this? He showers every night andwithin a short time I can smell it again. Does anyone understand this or have any suggestions?
I have type one diabetes. I got diagnosed with it last July, when i passed out and was taken to the hospital. I'm 13 years old, and was diagnosed the week of my birthday. I have also not started my period. my doctor said that a delayed start of your period could be a bad thing. How do I know if its a problem, or if I'm just not ready to start?
I had a high blood sugar test. My doctor said lose weight. She also said don't eat anything white. I take chromium picolinate--up to 1000 mg/day. I also take a variety of supplements to help control my blood sugar. I try to eat foods that are less than 55 on the Glycemic Index. Sweet potatoes, despite their name, register 55 on the Glycemic Index which means they are relatively slow in converting to sugars in your system. Compare their rating with that of white potatoes: 100. There are actually foods that will help keep your blood sugar down: apples, celery are two. There is a lot you can do before succumbing to the western meds.
Help
Just because a "food" is in the "good" zone on the Glycemic index doesn't mean that you can have it. Everybody/person is different - I can eat raw carrots but CAN only have a little cooked carrots. You have to find which foods that your body "likes" and which it doesn't like. My wife is a type II and I am a type I. Some foods that she can have a "lot" of, I can have a little and foods I can have she can only havwe a little. It's quite a learning curve that really never ends - good luck!!
