...A dentigerous cyst is an odontogenic cyst - thought to be of developmental origin - associated with the crown of an unerupted (or partially erupted) tooth. The cyst cavity is lined by epithelial cells derived from the reduced enamel epithelium of the tooth forming organ. Regarding its pathogenesis, it has been suggested that the pressure exerted by an erupting tooth on the follicle may obstruct venous flow inducing accumulation of exudate between the reduced enamel epithelium and the tooth crown. Dentigerous cyst = Follicular cyst : It's a benign entity , but some kind of tumors can arise from this cysts ( unusually - but the exact percent is not demonstrated in our text ) : Odontogenic tumors, such as the ameloblastoma, occasionally arise from the lining of the follicular cyst . Less common but of importance is the occurrence of epidermoid carcinoma arising from the lining of a follicular cyst or of mucoepidermoid carcinoma arising from the mucous glands within the wall of the cyst. |

Dentigerous cyst symptom ?
After having an upper wisdom
tooth removed my dentist
diagnosed a dentigerous cyst
which he has referred me to
have looked at.
I don't know if this is a
coincidence but I have been
getting a twitching eyelid and
also tingling in my head and
face. Do you think it is
connected with the cyst or
something else ?

It's really tough to say whether it had to do with the nerve block that the oral surgeon used, the remval of the tooth or the dentigerous cyst. Without knowing the details of the procedure, it's difficult to say with any degree of certainty which was the culprit. |

dentigerous cyst question?
I saw an oral and
maxillofacial surgeon last
week because I have a
dentigerous cyst caused by an
unerupted upper right wisdom
tooth. It was discovered when
my dentist removed a fifth (!)
small wisdom tooth from the
same side and then took
panoramic x-rays. He said that
the cyst looks quite big but
obviously there are other
people who have had bigger
ones than mine. I wondered if
you or anyone you know have
had this type of cyst and how
they did. I have to have an
operation in February to
remove the extra wisdom tooth
and the cyst for histolopathic
examination.
Thanks.

I have not had this but I understand the prognosis is usually good. You can read about it at this site |
