Coprophagia?
My 17 month old dog is a shelter rescue and has finally settled in. I thought that I'd weaned her from her habit of coprophagia, but no, I was wrong. She continues to eat both her stool and that from my other dog. I'm using for-bid with both dogs and have been for about a month. I keep everything cleaned up and disposed of. I would really like it if I wouldn't have to stand guard over the dogs when they go to the bathroom, especially during the winter or in the rain. Their dog food is high quality. TIA!

Good luck with this one. Some dogs just never stop, do they? Perhaps in time she will get better, but until then I am afraid you will need to supervise and clean up immediately (and continue to use the for-bid or ask your vet if there is something better). Some times switching foods (brands) actually helps (there are many good quality foods).

Is there ascientific/psychologicalexplanation for coprophagia?
I can agree that homosexuality exists as nature's population control, and I accept that certain mammals display bisexual tendencies. But what's the sense in eating poop? I mean, I've seen puppies do it when there's undigested stuff in it. Why do some humans do it?
From the medical literature, coprophagia has been observed in a small number of patients with dementia and/or schizophrenia[1] and depression. [1] Effective treatment of coprophagia in a patient with schizophrenia with the novel atypical antipsychotic drug perospirone [2] Escalation of a fetish: coprophagia in a nonpsychotic adult of normal intelligence See also: Paraphilia (in Greek para παρά = besides and -philia φιλία = love)—in psychology and sexology, is a term that describes a family of persistent, intense fantasies, aberrant urges, or behaviors involving sexual arousal to nonhuman objects, pain or humiliation experienced by oneself or one's partner, children, or nonconsenting individuals or unsuitable partners. Paraphilias may interfere with the capacity for reciprocal affectionate sexual activity. [1] Paraphilia is also used to imply non-mainstream sexual practices without necessarily implying dysfunction or deviance; see Clinical warnings section. Also, it may describe sexual feelings toward otherwise non-sexual objects.
COPROPHAGIA (eating feces)-what worked or didn't work foryou to make it stop?
I've researched all the remedies, but haven't found many reviews. If you have treated you're dog for this problem & KNOW 1ST HAND what actually did or didn't work, let me know. I'm interested in hearing how pumpkin, pinnapple, meat tenderizer, Deter,or For-Bid worked. I won't try putting hot sauce or anything like it on her feces. If I had the time to do that, I would just pick up. She eats it way too fast for me to catch her every time. I don't want to sound rude but, I don't want to hear how she might have a lack of nutrients - b/c she doesn't. She is fed very high quaility nutritiously balanced food. She doesn't have behavior problems - she gets plenty of exercise & play time, she's not bored. We keep the yard clean, it's not like she has the option to have a BM buffet when we let her out. I've done my research & found why they do this is very natural. Sorry to sound rude, I just would like actual answers. No common sense, sarcastic or judgemental answers like I see so often here. Thanks for the answers so far, this is exactly what I'm looking for. Can anyone tell me how much pinnapple and/or pumpkin to add to the food?

I used both the meat tenderizer and pineapple on my boy Kaiser's food when he was a pup. I actually think the pineapple worked better than the meat tenderizer. I will tell you that it is totally normal for pups to do this. Even some of my adults will do this, but only when we go up to clean up after them. My girl Sushi will go and run to grab a pie when she sees up coming out to clean it up. It has gotten to be like a game with her now doing this.
