"While Nick takes some blows,
he always lands on his feet in
the end."
How can I say this in a
different way, without saying
"he takes some blows?" I wanna
get rid of unnecessary

For "shelflife": colloquialism is not 相声 I agreed with "shelflife" that all Chinese drama have their local accent, you would notice the difference if you watch Mandarin drama of China, Taiwan, Singapore and Malaysia. On top of that, there would be a lot of phrase or words that have been using specifically in their country, which you might not understand at all. (even a Taiwan Chinese watching a drama with scripts written by a Singapore Chinese, that Taiwanese might not understand some of the phrase too) You need someone good in Chinese to introduce you the appropriate modern drama for you to learn, best with Chinese subtitles. Otherwise you might pick the wrong one and learn it the wrong way. |

Colloquialism: A word, phrase, or form of pronunciation that is acceptable in casual conversation but not in formal, written communication. It is considered more acceptable than slang. An example of colloquialism can be found in Rudyard Kipling's Barrack-room Ballads: When 'Omer smote 'is bloomin' lyre He'd 'eard men sing by land and sea; An' what he thought 'e might require 'E went an' took — the same as me! Also my fav: Unscrupulous racehorse owners have a fast horse and a slow horse that are nearly identical in appearance. They run the slow horse until the betting odds reached the desired level, then they substitute the ringer, who can run much faster. Dead, in this case means abrupt or exact, like in dead stop, or dead shot. |
