Chronic pain?
I have found out from my doctors than I have chronic migraines and chronic pain my neck in shoulders and I am going to just have to deal with it with the rest of my life. I am devastated. MY neck hurts every day and I get migraines once every 2 weeks. Any suggestions on how to deal with this?
I cant believe that your drs wouldnt recommend that you go to a pain clinic. I would ask your dr about going to a pain clinic. There they will give you meds and tell you ways on how to deal with the chronic pain.
What are the best ways to dealwith chronic pain?
I have had chronic pain for over four years now due to my condition of Fibromyalgia, chronic bursitis/ tendonitis and lower spinal problems. What are some ways which can help me deal with this pain for the rest of my life?
I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and Fibromyalgia so I know about chronic pain. My first suggestion would be to first deal with the actual cause instead of the symptoms. Anti-inflammatories would be a good way to reduce the inflamation. I take Celebrex but if that's too expensive, you can take either Ibuprofen or Tylenol or Naproxen (Aleve). After that, if you're still feeling the pain, speak with your doctor about pain management.
What do you do for yourchronic back pain to cope dayto day?
Have lots of back problems. I have 6 hernieted discs(that I know, we have never done an MRI of the thoracic spine). I had a fusion in my neck and I also have a hemangioma on one of my vertebrae that is causing pain. The back pain causes arm and leg pain, my right leg goes numb all the time and then my left leg picks up the slack, making my knee hurt. I am 28 and have been dealing with the worst of this for 3 years. I know this will be a life long battle. All of those that have had chronic pain for many more years then me, what have you done and what are you with pain control efforts? What kind of road am I heading down I guess is what I want to know? Just so everyone knows, I do work 12 hour shifts 3 days a week at a hospital, so I am pretty much on the run during those times. I have 3 children. The 2 oldest are in school and walk them to the bus stop. I clean my house, do yard work, walk the dogs, Everything that everyone else does. I am not just sitting on a couch crying all day. I have been working on losing my many extra pounds and have lost about 30 pounds and instead of the pain getting better with less weight, it is getting worse. So, basically, I just want to know where everyone has been in a journey like mine.
As someone diagnosed with chronic back pain myself, I have had great succes with seeing a pain management dr. I have managed to keep up with most of my normal activites.

Thats what I am trying to tell all of you who haven't been to a Pain specialist. Here in Nevada it is called the Pain Insiture of Nevada, but I am sure all states have one. They can offer many different alternatives. Mine was my spinal coard stemulator inplant. My last surgery before the implant was my cervical in 2006 also. I was born with an extra 1st Rib which durning my 15yr stay in the ARMY caused it to move and cause me many upper back and neck/shoulder issues. It was removed, but it was to late for the reseraction the damange was already done. So go see a pain specialist they know cronic Pain. They can help, I wouldnt trade my spinal coard stimulator for anything and I am now off all my durgs except my metha____ dont like to say my drug because I am still working. Good luck.

I just wanted to update my situation. I am now as of 4/2009 off all my meds. including Meth. I am so happy. Do I feel a little pain? Yes, but because of my spinal cord stimmulator I can tolorate the pain I feel. It is not over baring. I don't think any one should have to live with chronic pain these days and there are other options besides meds. Not sure if anyone is reading this, I haven't seen any responces, but it's ok, I just want this out there.
