It is separated from the ileum by the ileocecal valve (ICV) or Bauhin's valve, and is considered to be the beginning of the large intestine. It is also separated from the colon by the cecocolic junction. Read full entry

Why would a biopsy of your I had a colonoscopy yesterday
and the doctor says I have
IBS. When reading my report,
which didn't list many
details, it says my cecum is
normal and it was biopsied...
is this something that is
normally done or could there
be a reason behind it?

It is perfectly normal for a biopsy or two to be done when having a colonoscopy. The human eye can only see so much so a small piece of the tissue is taken for microscopic analysis. More bioposys may be taken if there is any suspicious tissue or polyps, but that would usually be noted in the report. FYI IBS is basically a "catch all" diagnosis that says "we don't know what is wrong". If you continue to have symptoms inspite of the medication then keep looking. |
