What is the difference betweena CT and a CT urogram?
I have had plain CT's and a CT with dye contrast to track my kidney stones. Now they want to send me for a CT urogram. What is the difference?
they are going to track bladder now.....
What is the difference betweena plain CT of the kidneyandbladder, and a CT urogram?
Ive had routine CT's with contrast and without, for kidney stones, but now they want to send me for a CT urogram....what is the difference?
Ultrasound investigation of the renal tract is often used to distinguish between various sources of bleeding. X-rays can be used to identify kidney stones, although CT scanning is more precise. Per AUA (American Urologic Association) guidelines, significant microhematuria (greater than 3 red blood cells per high powered field) in high risk patients includes: 1) Upper tract imaging of which a CT urogram is the gold standard 2) Urine cytology 3) Cystoscopy Note:- Urogram means a film obtained by urography. (radiography of any part of the urinary tract). Descending urography/ excretion urography/ excretory urography/ intravenous urography means urography after intravenous injection of an opaque medium which is rapidly excreted in the urine. Retrograde urography means urography after injection of contrast medium into the bladder through the urethra.
Why would a CT obtained the3rd day after a lacunar strokebe normal?
Is there a reason other than the problems with CT sensitivity? This is a homework problem, and I have to come up with 2 reasons why a CT obtained on day 3 was normal. One that I'm going to use is because of the low sensitivity of CT, but I can't think of another reason. Can anyone help me? Please! I appreciate the answers that I've gotten, but they don't exactly answer my question. Is there anyone out there who can help me? Please!
Lacunar infarction results from occlusion of the small penetrating arteries at the base of the brain, including the lenticulostriate and thalamoperforating arteries. They are smaller infarcts (less than 1 cm) and are found in the basal ganglia, thalamus and brainstem. MR is far more sensitive than CT for detecting small lacunar infarcts, particularly in the brainstem where CT scans are often degraded by artifacts from the bone at the skull base.
