Questions/Answers
Body Image?
I have to write a paper on Body Image, and I've decided to focus on what causes eating disorders, what causes negative self-images, why the constant dieting? Is it the media? Friends, family, wanting to be in control of your body? I know for everyone the contributing factors are different or a combination of things. I'm having a difficult time because I have to write a total of four Body Image papers, but there's only so much I can write about with my experience and knowledge. What are your ideas or personal experience with why body image is such a problem, especially in America?
well the media always portrays beautiful people as thin. The diets of America do not work. If you go on an official diet and eventually plan on stopping that diet than the weight will come back even faster and you will become even larger. People want to be attractive to others, and people favor people that are thin and beautiful. You can see the way that they react if you dress up nicely one day, and dress down another day. Then see the way people treat you. People pass judgment with out even getting to know who the person really is, and that makes it a really hard place to live in. Everyone wants to be the prettiest, smartest, and best. And the truth is that not everyone is.
How does body image in themedia affect you?
Hey everyone ! How does body image in the media (magazines, tv, etc.) effect you? Does it make you feel insecure about yourself or your body? If so, please be specific. Do you feel that there is an ideal woman and man body type depicted in magazine advertisments or on television? If it doesn't effect you, please tell me why. Does it have to do with your age, or something else? Please be specific with your answer & and let me know your age and gender. Thank you !
I'm 36, Female. I used to pay attention to the magazines, movies etc - see what's hot, what's not, what I should be wearing, how my hair should be. Then about 5 years ago I learned to accept myself for who I am and I stopped paying attention.
Is it bad to be overlyconcerned with body image andhow others view you?
Is it bad to be overly concerned with body image and how others view you? I am a 17 year old male and I do not like the way my body looks! What should I do?
its all the media and how it tries to make you body concious to make money, its silly. why do you feel like this? is it competition with your mates? to get girls? you need to try and get self worth from something other than your looks. maybe be quirky? and start a band and like arty clothes haa. im a girl around your age. and tbh, my friends and guys say im quite pretty (even tho i get insecure sometimes). and i wanna guarantee you, that with guys, its not if they are 'fit' or whatever. its if they are my type. for example, I like guys who wear skinny jeans and play in indie bands :D haa. i dont mind if they are attractive or ugly whatever. as long as they are my type and have a great personality.
