You didn't specify the service voltage, but for 120vac single phase, #10 copper wire @ 30 amps, the voltage drop is a tad over 6 volts per 100 ft. The voltage drop is linear so you can extrapolate. This means there will only be about 114 vac available to the load at 100 ft. For 115 vac the length is about 80 ft. Since you wish to maintain 30 amp service you'll need to consider that as the load rather than the intended use load. Some appliances will operate at 110 vac, so you can have about 155 ft of wire before the voltage drops to 110 vac. The voltage drop will be different for different types of service, i.e. different voltages and/or multi-phase service. See the site below for more info. There is a calculator at the bottom of the page. http://www.powerstream.com/Wir e_Size.htm |

How to hook up a amp to my 97 I want to hook up my subwoofer
and amp to my boat but don't
know how to really.. I've
hooked up systems in cars
before but never a boat. I
also want to be able to switch
the amp on/off through by acc
switch.. Is it a good idea to
hook a subwoofer up period??
Do I need 2 batteries or a
bigger alternator?? I'll tell
you what kind of amp and
speakers I have its a kicker
kx300.2 amp to a toby
sheriff.. If anyone can help
please do.. Tell me everything

a second battery is a good idea so your not stranded. Have to get a "GUEST" batter switch that lets you switch to battery 1 or 2 to listen to the stereo while your not running. This will allow you to have a good battery for starting if you accidentally run one down. And yes you should have a switch on the blue remote turn on to the amp so you have the option to turn it off with out turning the other speaker off. The rest of it is running the wiring like you do in a car just harder in a boat but it can be done. |
