Bird Feeder?
I've had bunches of bird
feeders but squirrels eat the
food. I've tried those bird
feeders that squirrels 'can't
get on' but they still do!!!
What should I do?

I think there is a hot pepper spray you can put on the seeds that squirrels will not eat. I've never used it because the squirrels get buck shot # 6 at my feeder. I hate squirrels because they eat my pecan nuts. |

How can I attract birds to my I put up a bird feeder a
couple of days ago, and not
one single bird has come near
it... I tried putting bird
seed on the ground and I was
successful in getting the
attention of some blue jays,
but they avoided the feeder...
Does anyone know why birds are
avoiding my feeder?
Does anyone know how to get
the birds to feed from my
feeder?
Should I buy a bird bath?
BTW I live in south
Florida....

Just keep it full of seed and give it time. It took about a month for the birds to really get used to our feeder. Our bird feeder is usually only busy early in the morning. Btw... try a dish of peanuts... blue jays love peanuts... A bird bath can't hurt if you want. It's fun to watch them come get drinks and clean themselves. ... west-central florida |

Where is the best place to put We hung our new bird feeder on
a ceiling hook on our back
deck, however we haven't seen
any birds come to it yet. I
tried resting the bird feeder
on the ledge of our deck but
no dice. The only tree we have
on our property is a small
tree in the front yard, but I
would love to keep the bird
feeder in the backyard. How
can I get birds to come to it?

Since you say you have no tree with branches close to where you want to enjoy the birds, hang your feeders on the feeder poles they sell at Wal Mart, or Home Depo. They can have up to 4 prongs on them, and you can hang two or three different feeders for different birds, and save one for a bath/waterer that you can buy to hang close by food. I have several in my yard, and different birds are here now that it's winter than were here in spring and summer. I even hung a globe with nectar for hummingbirds. The first place I hung it, none ever came. I gave it a try later in the season, and in a different place, and viola! We had hummingbirds right in our kitchen window! I hung the globe on one of those window hooks, and we could wash dishes and watch them fight for nectar rights not 2 feet away! And if we opened the window, we could hear their wings.. it sounds like a big bee closeby, and their 'song' is a squeak of sorts. Just keep offering different kinds of foods for the birds in your area, and you might want to invest in an inexpensive bird book, so you can identify all the birds that will find your feeders! I have seen 19 species in my yard, not 5 feet from my car port where I have a rocker where I sit and watch them. You might also keep in mind that you will get free growth from the seed at the feeders. I put my feeders in my front flower bed the first time, and ended up with all kinds of stuff growing! I had some of the prettiest sunflowers in my yard from free growth out of the feeders. So put them where you can just mow down any unwanted growth from your seed scatter, and enjoy! |
