History
A full set of eight trigrams and 64 hexagrams, analogous to the three-bit and six-bit binary numerals, was known to the ancient Chinese through the classic text I Ching. An arrangement of the hexagrams of the I Ching, ordered according to the values of the corresponding binary numbers (from 0 to 63), and a method for generating them, was developed by the Chinese scholar and philosopher Shao Yong in the 11th century. However, there is no evidence that Shao understood binary computation; the ordering is also the lexicographical order on sextuples of elements chosen from a two-element set. How does the alphabet fit in I've figured out the Numeral
Binary system but I cant seem
to see where the alphabet
comes in.
I've seen that A-Z is 100
0001-101 1010 but then how can
you have Binary 100 1011
(Decimal 75 and also the
letter K)? How would you
define if it was 75 or K?
Thanks for any help ^_^

Any program that inputs binary data treats that data as numbers or characters depending upon the expectation of the program. Here are a couple of good reviews of the ASCII representation of characters and numbers. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A SCII http://web.uccs.edu/lbecker/SP SS/ascii&binary.htm |
