How do I become a professionalbelly dancer?
My mother used to train for up to seven hours a day (for several years). I've been thinking about it for a few years, and now I wonder... Is 28 a bit late to begin training (from the beginning) to become a professional belly dancer? And how do I train to become a serious, professional belly dancer? Thank you ;) Lol, Theresa. That's not a problem for me. Anyway, is 28 too late to begin (to start from the beginning with the intention of doing it professionally)?
It is never too late to begin dancing. Take lessons and then eventually you will be good enough to perform on your own and charge people. Have you heard of Rachel Brice? Youtube her if you haven't. My friend took classes with her, and Brice only took a few belly dance classes then began dancing/choreographing on her own. Now shes touring and performing in her own shows. She's amazing and has developed her own technique and personality. Find a good teacher who has a good reputation, and those belly dance videos won't teach you much either. You need a teacher to correct your technique in the beginning. What you put into dance you will get back. Practice is the key, and focus. Oh, BTW (in response to Philip): Bellydance is a Middle Eastern dance style, it has nothing to do with India.

Has anyone got any tips onbecoming a proffesional bellydancer?
I am 15 years old and i really want to become a proffesional belly dancer, i practice as much as possible and go to classes. Does anyone have any other useful advice?
Here is some very useful advice: Belly Dancers, according to Middle Eastern and Iranian men, are basically like the women in the strip clubs. It carries a bad reputation. Sure it's pretty and fun, but to the male audience (and many females) it is considered to be a form of prostitution. Here in the West we don't know this concept so I thought I'd tell you. In Eastern societies belly dancing is something only reserved for the husband or at parties where it's just all women and everyone is dancing. So if you are going to be doing belly dancing gigs at restaurants (I know they do here in tmy city in south texas at various middle eastern restaurants) or shows or whatever you might want to consider NOT doing them in such places. It's ironic that all the belly dancers they hire for entertainment at the restaurants are actually white or hispanic women who don't know about the whole arabian concept of it. You NEVER EVER see an Arab Muslim woman doing such a thing. I have seen music videos that are usually using christian lebanese women in them to do belly dancing. It's considered like a tease for the guy in the video, thus all arabs who watch the video know the concept. Any woman doing it in front of guys basically is considered easy. I don't mean to hurt your feelings, but I honestly wanted to let you know the cultural concept it carries. I know this because I've been around the culture long enough, married to an Arab, and am a muslim also.
