What would have happened if Despite that Lyndon Johnson
won one of the biggest
landslides in American
history, the US still crept
into Vietnam, which was not a
positive event. While I am a
Democrat, and believe Johnson
had the best domestic agenda
of any President, I wonder
what kind of President Barry
Goldwater would have been.
What would have happened in
Vietnam? Would Civil Rights,
like those in the the 1964
Civil RIghts act against which
Goldwater voted ever gone to
blacks? What would political
history have looked like?
Would he have been re-elected?

I can't tell you about Goldwater since I don't have a crystal ball but I agree with you about Johnson. He was one of the best presidents the United States has ever had maybe better than Kennedy. |

Why do modern Conservatives I consider myself an
Independent and this has
always bugged me. Why have
modern "conservatives"
completely abandoned the
memory and lessons of
Goldwater? If you want an
answer to why the GOP is so
screwed up, look no further.
Social Conservatives, starting
with Reagan, have raped the
GOP beyond
comprehension.....What the
hell happened?

Good point, but a simple answer: Goldwater lost. You don't see Democrats going on about Walter Mondale and George McGovern. |
