Etiology
In adults, Baker's cysts usually arise from almost any form of knee arthritis and cartilage (particularly the meniscus) tear. Baker's cysts can be associated with Lyme disease. Baker's cysts in children do not point to underlying joint disease. Baker's cysts arise between the tendons of the medial head of the gastrocnemius and the semimembranosus muscles. They are posterior to the medial femoral condyle. Hi, first time I read about this. I also have one behind my right knee, had it for some 12 years now. I saw a specialist about it, as a matter of fact he was the one to do that kind of surgery. He told me if he was me he would not get the operation because when it comes to your knee, after such a surgery your knee will never be the same, you will always have pain and problems, that as long as it did not bother me, to just leave it as it. It's not cancerous either. So today I still have it. It has not grown any larger and is not really bothering me as sometimes I forget I have it until I bend my knee. Other than that, we are happy together. Good luck on your decision. As to what it is, it was explained to me but I am sorry, I forgot but I am sure you can fine something on the Internet about it. I never searched. |

Any runners out there that I have a Bakers cyst which the
orthopedic guy doesn't want to
touch. I've been trying some
alternative therapys but am
still in some pain. Former
marathoner and 1/2 marathoner,
now I can only run 3 days a
week an hour maximum. Any
success's with this out there.
Haven't ruled out surgery or
aspiration, just need a doctor
who will do it, if it will be
helpful. Thanks

I have never heard this, but suggest aqua jogging is a very good alternative which I have used to reproduce the effects of running. You can do sped & tempo sessions also. Good luck |

Does Anyone Here Know Anything I have been diagnosed having a
bakers cyst at the back of my
knee and its very painful. The
doctor did say it would
eventually pop and go away,
but he didn't say how long I
would have it for. I was given
a cortisone injection into the
knee but its starting to wear
off.

I have them also. They used to hurt more and were a bit larger but I think they do pop occasionally. They probably won't ever leave. I heard that is you have surgery they will still remain because they have like a root that can't be removed. |
