What author and/or book wouldprovide the reader a feelingof sunny California living?
Is there an author or specific book(s) that are set in California, that provide a sense of the modern california lifestyle? I am not looking for a 'Places to Visit' kinda book, but perhaps a novel or similiar. I am guessing modern day Hollywood and San Francisco would be part of the setting.

What are the rights of anauthor of an article in aprofessional journal?
When an academic or professional journal publishes an article, what are the rights of the author, assuming there is no payment or fee involved? Is this determined by copyright law or is there typically a written publishing agreement - a contract - between the author and the journal? If this is governed by a contract, is there a standard custom for the terms of this agreement? What rules apply if there is no written agreement? Who owns the copyright and the reprint rights - the journal or the author? Thanks.
Unless there is a written agreement to the contrary, the author of an article generally owns the copyright to the article. There are exceptions, however, such as work for hire. There is no such thing as a "standard custom" for ANY contract. Within legal limits, of course, every contract can be customized depending on what the contracting parties want to happen. What may be right for you, may not be right for some. As a disclaimer, I should say that my answer is generalized based purely on the very limited facts provided. Your post sounds like a real issue for you. If that is the case, then I strongly suggest you speak to your attorney. An attorney will be able to flesh out the relevant facts, some of which you may not be aware.
What author do you recommendfor good mystery novels?
Or suspense. I've read and loved all of Reginald Hill and James Lee Burke and I'd like to find another author I'd like equally well. Don't know where to start though. Thanks!
YOU HAVE GOT TO READ TESS GERRITSEN!! (Forgive me for the caps, but she really is that great!) If you are into crime(medical)/thriller this is what you are looking for! 'Harvest' was Gerritsen's thriller that brought her onto the mainstream market where everyone began to appreciate her skill for writing a great thriller novel. So I suggest that you start there.. Harvest is the book when Gerritsen ultimately draws on her years of experience as a doctor to deliver a harrowing and brilliantly crafted novel of suspense. When a heart intended for a transplant, has its origin questioned by a doctor, and nothing can prepare her for the grisly final reckoning. Hope this helps!! Good luck finding the right author for you. xxx
