Is asphalt dirt considered ahazard if it's used to leveloff the backyard?
Several years ago my husband witnessed the dumping of truckloads of asphalt dirt in our neighbor's backyard. These were huge chunks of asphalt. Then the owner covered it with clean dirt so no one would see the asphalt dirt beneath it. The owner of the property used the asphalt dirt to level off his backyard and raise it a bit more since the property has some low spots. My husband don't have any recollection of the removal of the asphalt dirt. Right now, the property is for sale and I don't believe the realtor is aware of the asphalt soil in the backyard. Is this considered a hazard? a soil contamination? an environmental violation? Keep in mind this is a residential property. If in fact proven that the presence of asphalt is still in the backyard and the realtor is made aware of it, will the realtor be obligated to disclose of the matter? This is puzzling to me so any assistance is appreciated. Thank you.
You would probably not be bothered by the asphalt, the tar in it is stabilized. You could check with the EPA. If it was determined to be a hazard, then whoever had it put there would be required to facilitate the cleanup.
How much of the asphaltshingles torn off of roofs isrecycled?
Old asphalt can be used to add to the mix of road asphalt and for other uses. How much is actually recycled, and what are the obstacles? Have you been successful in having your old shingles be recycled, instead of just having them hauled away to a landfill?
In Alberta, Canada I believe the recycle rate for asphalt shingles is extremely low. I have worked in the waste industry for almost 8 years now and despite our having bylaws stating no asphalt shingles are to go into our landfills....I know a lot of them are. They are hidden in bags and boxes and dumped with the rest. I think the only way we can change this is to increase fines and actually levy them when needed. Also, education of what can be done with them, where, how and why it is important to do so. When a large storm blew a lot of mine off my roof, I took them myself, to a landfill site that separates and sends recyclables to where they should go. I never knew they did this until I asked.
How can i repair my asphaltdriveway the easiest andcheapest?
I have an asphalt driveway and over time my cars have created tracks in the driveway. I want to know how i can fill the indented track, easiest and cheapest way. My friend said the put down Quikcrete and then put asphalt patch down over it. I think the concrete will crack and crumble though. what are your thoughts?
yes the concrete will crack. home depot. i think sells a ashpalt patch in about a 25 lb bag. lay it out in the drive till a little warm then spread it around and drive on it to tamp it down. looks like heck though.
