How can I get Arabic script I own a large (19 inch
diameter) engraved or etched
decorative plate, made of
brass or copper, the center of
which appears to contain
writing in what might be
stylized Arabic script. How
would I go about learning if
it was Arabic and getting it
translated? It is too large to
fit on my scanner.

If it is decorative, it most likely is Islamic. It is against Islamic beliefs to depict a person, animal or any kind of life, I believe. Anyway, usually the decorative art is either some pretty phenominal geometry, or else a written word that has been designed. The words are usually from the Quran, most commonly pertaining to the greatness of God. Your local college may have Arabic speaking students that would be willing to help you figure it out. By the way, Persian and Arabic are different languages, so it helps to know that as well. |
