What can you do with a mastersin Applied Linguistics?
Is there any money in it? I mean, a decent, non impoverished living ($40 or $50,000 a year +)? What kind of jobs can you get with a masters in Applied Linguistics?
you can teach English as a second language....either in the U.S. or overseas. It's not the best paying job in the world, but you'll always have one because everyone is trying to learn English.
what's the difference betweenlinguistics and appliedlinguistics?
yeah... cuz im looking through the list of programs that schools in canada are offering in linguistics, and theres applied linguistics and linguistics.. i was wondering what the difference was, if linguistics is just more general. thanks ppls.
Hi, my field is applied linguistics. To put it as simply as possible, whenever another discipline (psychology, sociology, anthropology, business, etc.) is used to solve a language question or problem, it can be referred to as applied linguistics. Fields of study in applied linguistics include, but not limited to, second language acquisition, language testing, language program evaluation, forensic linguistics, discourse analysis & sociolinguistics. Pure linguistics is more theoretical, and appied linguistcs is more practical and testing of the theories. I hope this helped a bit.
best us university to studyapplied linguistics andenglish as secondary language?
I'm an international student, and I'm looking for the best us university to study M.A. in applied linguistics and english as secondary language. I've tried looking up UCLA and Georgia State University and both of them are offering the courses I'm looking for . The problem is, since I'm not American, it's quite hard for me to determine which universities really specialize in the fields i've mentioned. Are these universities good? Could you recommend other good institutions with a solid curriculum in Applied Llinguistics?
Of the schools listed, you'll find the following more "academic communities", "more international" in terms of city residents and fellow students, and with greater off campus work/leisure options: Boston University Boston Columbia University NYC Georgetown University Washington DC Indiana University (small college town but very diverse) University of Iowa (also small town but very diverse) University of Michigan (Ann Arbor is a large college town) Good luck!
