...Ants are social insects of the family Formicidae (), and along with the related wasps and bees, they belong to the order Hymenoptera. Ants evolved from wasp-like ancestors in the mid-Cretaceous period between 110 and 130 million years ago and diversified after the rise of flowering plants. Today, more than 12,500 species are classified with upper estimates of about 22,000 species. They are easily identified by their elbowed antennae and a distinctive node-like structure that forms a slender waist. Read full entry

how can i get rid of my ant i live in a basement apt. and
the ants are in full force
already. I've been killing
every ant i see. then i
learned that if you leave a
dead ant, they will come and
take the body to eat. so now
every time i see an ant i pick
it up with my hands and drop
it into liquid wax.
immediately their bodies boil
and pop and bubble. it's
satisfying but it's not
helping. they are attacking me
while i sleep. today i have
all these bug bites on me and
i know the only bug i've been
in contact with recently are
ants. i didn't know they big
and it leaves a bite that
itches. so now i'm mad and i
want to inflict as much harm
and torture to their colony as
possible. i don't want them to
just leave and not come back,
i want every ant that ever
stepped foot into my house to
die a horrible slow death. any
suggestions?

Ants enter homes looking for food, water and shelter. Controlling them usually requires a combination of methods. Instructions STEP 1: Keep ants out. Caulk and seal all cracks and crevices around your home's foundation; inside, pay special attention to areas where food is prepared. STEP 2: Fix plumbing leaks. Remove food sources. Store food in clean, closed containers. Store garbage outdoors in sealed containers. STEP 3: Use bait to destroy nests. For an entire colony to be destroyed, ant bait must be slow-acting. Some of the chemicals that are effective in baits are hydramethylnon, boric acid and fipronil. Baits will work only if there is no other food source nearby. STEP 4: If ants are inside, wash them away with warm, soapy water. This removes the chemical trail and is as effective as most of the insecticides. STEP 5: Do not allow any wood - firewood, yard debris or foundations - to remain in contact with the soil. Damp wood provides a habitat for carpenter ants. Trim tree branches and shrubs away from buildings. Tips & Warnings For extreme ant infestations, seek the help of a professional exterminator. Be sure to keep ant baits away from children and pets. |

Where do you get ants for an One of my foster kids won a
ant farm for a prize, he
brought it home today. So I
told him he could have in the
garage not in the house, but
there where no ants. We called
a local pet store, no ants. So
do you capture them and how,
and what kind are best, what
do you feed them. I just
wanted to find out?

** You need to go to bushy areas to get them preferably 3cm + ants - that's what we get for our ant farm The ant farms normally come with droppers and you mix a tiny amount of sugar in water and drop them in the sand about every 2 -3 days to feed ants |

No the queen ant doesn't usually leave their chamber, sometimes never leaving. They are a lot bigger but they often have a huge abdomen and aren't nearly as mobile. That's why when a queen is leaving to start a new colony they'll actually stop producing eggs so they're able to physically handle the move. |
