Early life
Alois Hitler was born in the small rustic village of Strones in the Waldviertel, a hilly forested area in northwest Lower Austria just north of Vienna, to a 42-year-old unmarried peasant, Maria Anna Schicklgruber,Sometimes spelled "Schickelgruber" whose family had lived in the area for generations.
