What is the average cost tohave a completely new allelectric HVAC unit installed?Heat pump and Furnace.?
My home heating and cooling system is nearing the end of it's usefulness. I currently have a 1984 model Carrier all electric Heating and Air Conditioning unit (heat pump and furnace) that needs to be replaced soon....maybe real soon! I would like to hear from some of you who have had to replace their entire system. What should I expect to pay for a new unit including the cost for installation. I know I can get contractors to come by and give me free estimates but I'd like to get some idea of the total cost before I call them. Thanks I currently have a 2.5 ton unit and will replace it with a similar system. I may go to a 3 ton unit.
First, I do not know your specifics but if 36k BTU (2.5 ton) is enough to do the job, don't get bigger. It's better to run a little longer than to start and stop more frequently, from an energy usage standpoint. Next you have to adress efficiency. New standards for eficciency (seer rating) are being implemented so you choices may be limited. More eficcient units cost more, but the installation cost should be the same. The equipment will cost your contractor between one thousand and 18 hundred dollars depending on some variables. They will mark that up 20-40% and charge at least that much for a simple 1 day install. Probably somewhere around 4 thousand dollars.
Can anyone explain how a heatpump works and give the namesof all the componants?
Im doing revision for the next academic year and have lost this particular worksheet. A heat pump is on the back of a fridge and it is what keeps the fridge cold.
A heat pump is essentially a heat engine in reverse. Working in a reversed Carnot cycle it uses an energy input to move or pump heat from a cold source (e.g. the inside of a refrigerator) to a hot sink (the radiator on the back of a refrigerator). A vapour compression heat pump uses a compressor to raise the pressure and temperature of a refrigerant vapour (compression phase). It then condenses the vapour to a liquid in the hot sink heat exchanger exchanger (cooling phase), drops its pressure and temperature by expanding it through a restrictor or an expansion valve (expansion phase), finally evaporating the cold liquid to a gas in the cold source heat exchanger (heating phase) which in the case of a refrigerator is the cold space inside.
What is the proper way ofcleaning the air coil returnfor a heat pump? My filterfailed and it is all clogged
My air filter was inserted incorrectly and now dirt particles are stuck in the heat pump coils. I only have a 4" space to run a vacuum across the coils. Other than to remove the duct work, how would anyone clean these return coils? Seems very dirty and difficult to access.
Start taking the panels off. Be careful with the Vac. DON'T bend any fins. There is a coil cleaning spray. Also fin combs. Find a hvac guy. A filter problem may be the least of your worries. How's the blower motor? and outdoor unit? Spend a $100.00 for peace of mind.
