Alexandria?
I was wondering if anyone could tell me some things about Alexandria's Government and Social Structure back when Alexander the Great was still alive? Or, if you have any good websites that tell me some of the things about it, I would really appreciate it. My school doesn't provide us with text books. They tell us to use the internet.

What is the best way to takepublic transportation fromAlexandria, VA to DC?
We will be visiting DC for the inauguration and our hotel is in Alexandria, VA. Is there a train line on metro that goes from Alexandria to DC? If not, should I drive to the nearest metro station? Or is there another alternative?
Shoredude2 gave you some good information, which I'll expand upon a bit. Metro is the best way to get into DC short of walking (which isn't feasible for Alexandria), but they are expecting extreme crowds. It will take hours for everyone on the Mall to get onto Metro, even with the system running at full capacity. So, expect major delays. Alexandria is a large geographic entity, including the Old Town area and into portions of Fairfax County. The Metro blue and yellow lines have stations in different portions of Metro. To find the closest station, take a look at the Metrorail map on this website: http://www.wmata.com Also, check your hotel's website, which will probably list the closest Metro station. You can also check directly with your hotel to determine if they will be running shuttles buses to Metro. Parking at Metro stations will be scarce or non-existent, as hundreds of thousands (millions?) of people will have the same idea as you. You may also want to go by a Metro station the day before the Inauguration, to purchase your Metro passes in advance. Again, expect long lines and long waits. And be patient--the lines and waits will be due to the huge number of people coming for the Inauguration. The federal and local authorities will be doing their best, but they already know that there's no way that Metro will be able to speedily handle everyone who wants to ride.
Why was Alexandria such andimportant city in the Romanworld in the first century CE?
With all things considered such as the economy, trade, etc, why was Alexandria so important in the Roman world specifically in the first century CE? Thank you! Alexandria, Egypt! Thank you!
Alexandria was the center of learning, education and culture in its time. The loss of the library there still affects us.
