Is there any truth behind the The Mediaeval
Alexander-romances sometimes
credit Alexander the Great
with building a wall across
the Caucasus to keep out the
evil tribes of Gog and Magog.
Has this story just come about
through a garbled report of
the Great Wall of China, or is
there really the remains of a
long defensive wall in the
Caucasus region, and if so,
who really built it?

I heard of the gog and magog (the Muslims call em Yakjud and Makjud) when I was a child. It is said that these species is not human but very intelligent. They eat human flesh and live in the ground. It is said that Alexander encountered these species in the Siberian area. To avoid them from attacking the human population, his army located the hole they came from and use molten iron to seal them from coming out. It is said a lot of iron ore were used. it is said also when the end of the world is near, these species will manage to come out and terrorized the world. How true this is, God knows but strangely, in Siberia, there is an area where there is tons of iron ores being mined. It is near the southern border. Is this the location that Alexander encountered these beings? As for the Great Wall China, it was built against the armies from the steppes. Mostly Huns and Tartar and happened later in time. |

Gracling and Fire, both by Kristin Cashore, Gracling is a lot more romantic than Fire. The Gemma Doyle Trilogy by Libba Bray, The last one is the most romantic. The Mortal Instruments Trilogy by Cassandra Clare. These are all extremely fantastical, and romantic! |
