...Acting is the work of an actor or actress, which is a person in theatre, television, film, or any other storytelling medium who tells the story by portraying a character and, usually, speaking or singing the written text or play. Most early sources in the West that examine the art of acting () discuss it as part of rhetoric.Csapo and Slater (1994, 257); hypokrisis, which literally means "acting," was the word used in discussions of rhetorical delivery. While there is a set definition for the word "acting", there is no set definition for the phrase "to act". It is thought that the actor is typically supposed to "become the other", where the actor molds his or herself to the character. In all actuality, the actor should mold the character to his or herself based on common interests and goals that the character needs to achieve. This method is commonly taught through Constantin Stanislavski. Read full entry

Acting????
I have had no experience in
acting, and I am 14 years old.
I always wanted to act, but I
never did for some reason. I
have a weird feeling inside me
that is telling me that I can
act. Would it be unlikely for
me to be casted into a movie
with no acting experience?

it is unlikely but hey! look at cameron diaz! she landed her first role on "The Mask" with Jim Carrey with absolutely no acting "experience" all that matters is that you can act - REALLY WELL! |

Acting. <----?
I want to become an actress. I
am 14 years old and acting is
my dream. I have some
experience, but nothing major.
I want to act for any show,
especially something in
Nickelodeon as a minor
character. Can someone please
tell me how I do it? Oh yeah,
if you are gonna post rude
replys, trying to crush my
dreams, don't even
bother...chances are I'll
report you for abuse. Thanks.

When I was your age, acting was my biggest passion. But you're still growing and your tastes and interests may change in 5 years. However, if you're really passionate about drama and acting, look for some local acting groups in your area. Is there a drama program at your school? A class? Take as many courses as you can. Actors never stop learning! Most importantly, it's very seldom that people can just go to Hollywood and get their dream acting job overnight. You have to work your way to the top. Keep your head high and you may find yourself working for Nickelodeon! :-D |

How do I start an acting I'm a seventeen year old high
school student and I am
extremely interested in
becoming an actress. I took an
Acting Workshop class at my
school two years ago and I got
a 90% A and the teacher said I
have "Stage Precense". I've
been interested in Acting as a
career since I was five or six
years old.
So, my question is this: What
should I do to pursue a career
in acting? I live on Long
Island (close to NYC). Should
I print up a resume now and
take headshots after February
(when I get my braces off) and
then go on auditions over the
summer?
My aunt says I should go to
college, which I want to, but
I want to make sure I've
exhausted every effort to
become an actress first. So
should I take a year off to
pursue acting and then go to
college?

You should go to college, but there are performing arts schools. Or while your in college, check out if there are any local productions or the theatre club. There is a way to get your education and be an actress and I'm sure many of the performing arts schools will give you the foundation to get your career off the ground. |
