Questions/Answers
Does someone know about thehallucinatory effects of thejuice of the Soma Plant?
Also, I would like to know more about Endorphins which is a mood elevating hormone produced within the body. The Soma plant was used by ancient Indians (India) to give them a high when performing religious ceremonies. I believe it existed on the Hindukush mountains and is now extinct.
The identity of the soma plant has not yet been determined. There are many theories. Some describe soma as a plant, some as a herb, some as a mushroom, or a combination of extracts from various sources. The effects of soma depend on what soma actually is, so determining what these effects are is currently very difficult. One effect of soma which is consistent with Indo-Aryan literature is the ability to communicate or merge with the divine or with spirits. However, this effect is commonly experienced with many natural hallucinogens, so it doesn't help to narrow down the identity of soma itself, or its other effects.
Do you know anything about thedrug Soma?
My mom takes Soma for muscle pain and seems to have some weird reactions to it. If she doesn't eat before taking it she starts to slur her words and can't focus enough to complete sentences. Is this normal or is she taking too much and lying about it?
Soma can be a powerful drug and is often abused. But don't assume the worst, your description of her reactions are very common with the drug, especially on an empty stomach. You can read more about the drug here http://www.drugs.com/soma.html
Would someone please onlysomeone who knows what thereare talking about answer aqustion about the drug Soma?
My wife's primary doctor is and has been giving Soma for her painful monthly minstrels. Has anyone heard of women taking this for this reason?
Soma is a skeletal muscle relaxant that is typically used in musculoskeletal conditions - like back injuries, etc., that cause acute pain or muscle spasms. I am an orthopedic nurse so I see it used for these types of conditions. I guess if it works for her then the benefits out way the risks but there are many side effects possible with this drug (like any drug). I am not an advocate for people taking any medication without a serious need for it. For this to be prescribed I would think that more conservative methods were not working. I don't know how often it's used in a gynecological setting but since it was made for muscles that are moved by or attached to the skeleton it seems unusual.
