How did driving change at I didn't watch Nascar much
before 2007, and I have heard
that Bristol was different
before the 2007 changes? Is it
even better now?

There used to be one fast way around Bristol, along the bottom, or inside lane. So drivers would protect that lane, even if their car wasn't as fast as the driver behind them. When the driver behind didn't want to ride around anymore, he would "bump" the other driver out of the way. They would even bump for the win. Needless to say, this caused some wreaks, short tempers, and road rage. Often drivers would retaliate on the track, or look for the other driver after the race. All of this anger made for some great entertainment, and it was part of what we expected to see during the Bristol race. Now, with the multiple grooves, there is less of a need to "bump and run" so there is less wreaks, less anger and no more fights. In my opinion, the racing at Bristol is just as good, but I think people miss seeing the drama of "pay back". |
