Perhaps the birds just have not discovered it yet. They like to have trees or some kind of cover or protection nearby. They're also attracted to the sound of water, so if you have a small fountain nearby or some kind of dripping water sound that might help. Black oil sunflower seed is a good choice for birdseed. Lots of different birds like it. |

There's one Gray Squirrel They bark-pause-bark. He
chatters from the tree trunk
and the whole process begins
anew.
PS. The squirrel proof bird
feeder is in the Oak tree
above, where the dogs are
located and it's loaded with 2
kinds of Sunflower seeds!

Squirrel: "Stay away from my nuts and seeds" Dog: "I just wanna play" Squirrel: "You have a warm house, I need to get ready for winter" Dog: "I just wanna play" Squirrel: "Go away!" Dog: "I just wanna play" And on and on the conversation goes lol. Cute question a star for you! |

Will red pepper flakes in bird The squirrels have twice
emptied my "squirrel proof"
feeders. I heard you can mix a
couple tablespoons of red
pepper flakes in and the
squirrels will stay away. I
don't want to harm the birds
though. I have chickadees,
cardinals and blue jays that
come to feed. Any thoughts?

No, this will not work. I have dumped old parrot food outside before with red hot pepper pieces(dried) and the squirrels ate around it. Get yourself to "Wild Birds Unlimited" My squirrel proof feeder from there is at least 13 years old. You won't be disappointed. Try putting out some hard ears of corn for the squirrels. |

but have heard people having
problems of squirrels chewing
up wires in cars. I wish to
prevent this.

It was once suggested to me by a wildlife expert, who was helping us with raccoon and armadillo visitors, to sprinkle cayenne pepper where ever you see evidence of these yard pests. They learn very quickly that when they go in your yard and then lick their paws that it's gonna be HOT! |

Do you know what kind of bird Sorry I don't have a picture,
but there is a bird on my
feeder that has burgundy or
ruby colored head and chest.
The rest of his body is dark
colored (black). Any ideas? It
is beautiful. I live in
Northwest Florida. The birds
we see regularly are
black-capped chickadees,
cardinals, tufted titmouse,
house wrens, and the
occasional blue jay. Oh don't
forget the SQUIRRELS, but only
on the feeders that aren't
squirrel proof. I'm ready for
the hummingbirds too, but I
haven't seen any yet this
year.
If you could provide a link to
a picture so I can compare
please that would be
appreciated. What a pretty
bird! The colors are
magnificent on the bird on my
feeder!
