How can I make my bird feeder squirrel proof?
Anyone who has bird feeders
knows how frustrating it is to
have squirrels destroying
them. I live in an area that I
call “squirrelville”
because there’s so many
squirrels running around.
There’s a lot of trees in my
neighborhood which is good for
attracting birds but I can
stop the squirrels from
attacking my bird feeders!

This seems to be a popular question, especially around Springtime! The location of your bird feeder is very important. Make sure your bird feeder is well made-It’s all about quality. The best place for a bird feeder is out in the open, at least ten feet from any tree branch, deck or any other squirrel launching object. Make sure your bird feeder is hung in a safe place. The squirrel proof tube bird feeder is both functional and beautiful. Used as the post on which a bird feeder is mounted, it makes it impossible for squirrels to get any traction. You can get squirrel proof bird feeders at Bargain Prices. Avoid Those Pesky Squirrels! Check out article which gives more good info and advice on keeping squirrels away from your bird feeder. |

how do I squirrel proof a bird feeder?
I already use a squirrel
baffle that sits on top of the
feeder.

i think the baffle is suppose to be on the bottom! if you have that many squirrels get a feeder for them, then they will leave the bird one alone. |

Bird Feeder vs. Squirrel ... how can we outsmart the little innocent squirrel from reaching the bird feeder?
Over the past couple years,
I've got my parents squirrel
proof bird feeders.
One birdfeeder, the one built
for the small birds to fly
into the steel grate, the
squirrels are able to reach
into the bird feeder and use
their claws to flick out bird
seed. It's not easy for the
squirrel, because they have to
hang on while using just one
claw to pick at the seeds.
The milk jug theory doesn't
seem to work; they just plow
past them.
I will also be accepting
pictures of your ideas. Send
photos to
holykrapbatman@inbox.com and
include your Yahoo Answers ID,
so I can match it up to your
post in here.
Best answer with or without
photos will get 10 points as
the answers will be tried out
either this week or next week.
I may extend the period of
time for further
experimentation.
Please help the little birds
keep their birdseed, and let's
shut down the free trade of
seed to the these militant
squirrels.
Thanks in advance for your
help and expertise.

Buy squirrel proof bird seed instead. Hot peppers produce a chemical called capsaicin to make them hot. Birds don't have the taste receptors to detect it, but squirrels do, so bird seed that has been treated with it will be appatizing to the birds, but too hot for the squirrel. |

How can I squirrel proof a bird feeder? |

I have had a metal feeder for about 7 years that has saved my sanity concerning squirrels. It's a metal feeder that has a top that you lift up to fill it. On the front is a bar where the birds sit to eat. When a squirrel comes to the feeder, the bar drops down and the seed is inaccessible to the squirrel. I've had MANY squirrels fall off this feeder! They just don't get it, that they are too heavy. I recently bought one for my mother at Tractor Supply, I know you can find one on line. Just google "squirrel proof feeder", and you will find some. Good luck. |

Keeping squirrels off of a bird feeder?
I hate squirrels. I have a
"squirrel-proof"
bird feeder (the weight of the
rodent closes the feeder)
hanging from my gazebo that
they still manage to get into.
It doesn't work. Short of a BB
gun, how do keep them from
eating all of my seed? Maybe a
special kind of seed??
Oh yeah, squirrels are
cute...until they tear up your
yard!!
