Are there any online degree I want to become a highschool
English teacher in Wisconsin,
but am discovering that
Wisconsin is a rather
difficult state to become a
teacher in. I can't easily
afford to accomodate a 20+
hour block of time to be down
on a college campus pursuing a
degree in the middle of the
work week. I do already have a
bachelors degree in Journalism
and a minor in English from
UW-Milwaukee so it is just the
"teaching" aspect that I would
need credits in. If anyone
else has recently become a
teacher in Wisconsin or knows
any way to expedite the
process, please let me know

I'm from WI and went through the same situation as you a while back. I know of no online source for obtaining a Teaching Certification in WI. Colleges like to see their students as part of the evaluation process. Cardinal Stritch will work with you as a part time student but ultimately, you have to commit. This can be upsetting but don't be discouraged. The jobs are out there as people retire and teaching does provide a good and rewarding life. |

What kind of teaching do you want to do? If you teach in a private school you don't necessarily need to have a degree in education. I thought the University of Phoenix offered teaching degrees, but I would not recommend a degree from an online school. It just isn't practical for that career path, and will likely be frowned upon by potential employers. I suggest going to a traditional school that offers online classes. There must be a counselor at the U. of P. that can offer you some advice. Good luck |

It would be a good idea to call you local Board of Education and see if they will accept your certificate. I have questions about how you are going to get required field experience with an online course. I worked two parttime jobs during the school year and one fulltime and two parttime jobs during the summer to get through. It's hard, but it can be done. |

I dont think there is an online teaching course. However, I do suggest to check out the different universities or colleges in Canada that have teaching programs and/or online programs. You may need to complete some prereqs. for the canadian teaching program. Here check out this website http://www.canadian-universiti es.net/ Good Luck! |

Actually you can. HOWEVER *this is a big but* No college of teachers will recognize it.. so save your money. As you will just have to redo the program. If you can't register with the college of teachers, you can't teach in that state/province. |
