I am in CA, so I cannot answer your specific question regarding surgeons in AZ, but I have some advice.... My advice would be to talk to everyone....talk to your family, friends and co-workers. Then ask your family, friends and co-workers to talk to their family, friends and co-workers....you get the idea. I found my surgeon by word of mouth. I asked everyone I know if they had Lasiks (or knew anyone who had Lasiks), and what doctor they went to. Almost everyone I talked to in my area went to the surgeon I ended up going to, and everyone was perfectly satisfied. I went into the procedure very confident! Just one other thing....I went to a doctor who used computerized, laser equipment. No knives were involved. But, it cost me a pretty penny. I paid $5500 for both eyes, but I was not comfortable going to a doctor that advertised in the newspaper for $500 per eye. Sometimes you get what you pay for! Good luck to you! |

Pencil Exercise Hold a pencil arms length in front of you. Really focus on the tip of that pencil. Once you have it focussed, very slowly move it towards you whilst still maintaining the focus. See how close you can get it before losing this focus. Swinging Focus on a distant object, swaying gently from side to side. Do this for a few minutes every day, blinking as you sway. The blinking helps clean and lubricates the eyes, which is especially important if you spend a lot of time in front of a computer. Clothesline Japanese studies show that this exercise can significantly improve your eyesight if done regularly. Place a picture on a clothesline. Stand about a foot away from it and focus on the picture whilst it is (probably rapidly) moving. Move back a foot and repeat. Continue with this until you are about 10 feet away. Candle Exercise Eye sight is not just about your eyes. It is also about the eye brain relationship. Your brain must interpret what the eyes pick up. This exercise aims to improve the brain/eye connection. Put your self in a quiet, dark place and look at a lighted candle. Focus your attention at the blue part of the flame and blink gently. After a minute or two try to imagine the lighted flame with your eyes closed. If the visualization is not perfect, again look at the blue part of the flame and try to imagine the same without making any effort. When you are able to visualize the flame in your imagination open your eyes. Colour Day Choose a colour and look out for it throughout the day wherever you go. When you see the particular colour, be aware of it. Don’t bother concentrating on the shape of the object, just experience the colour and it’s subtle shadings. This again should help the eye/brain connection. Sunning Try to do this daily. It may be difficult if you live somewhere like the UK! Close your eyes. Look directly at the sun through your closed eyes. While facing the sun, slowly rotate your head from side to side as far as you can. This gets the sunlight on the peripheral vision, and it helps bring more blood circulation to your neck. Do this for a few minutes. Enjoy the warming soothing feeling of the sun on your eyes. Eye Massage This exercise helps improve the blood circulation to the eye muscles. |

How old should you be to get I am 20 years old. I've had
glasses since i was about 16
or 17. I am seriously looking
into Lasik eye surgery because
i hate wearing my glasses ( i
am near sighted)
Recently it seems as though my
eyes have gotten worse. My
glasses work fine when i have
them on, but i've been
noticing that when i dont wear
them, its getting harder &
harder to see things i once
could.
Question is, how old are you
supposed to be to get this
done? If i get it done now,
and say a year or two down the
road it starts getting worse
again do they do 'free touch
ups?'
Also, if anyone knows, how
does sitting in front of a
computer affect your eyes? I'm
a writer, so i spend plenty of
time in front of the screen.
Thanks!
Also, how do i find a Lasik
eye specialist near me..and
how do i know they are legit &
safe?

well i will tell you that my wife had this done last year. she was 20 years old. i have also had this done(i was 23). we see great and have for the last year even while out in iraq. we are both military and had it done for free. what im really posting about is to tell you the you should look more into P.R.K. than lasik. its was safer, less time, and less problems down the road. as far as where to get it done just start calling around. |

Can I deduct the cost of lasik I had lasik surgery this year
and I started wondering if I
itemize can I deduct lasik as
a medical expense or since it
is a cosmetic or unnecessary
procedure would it be
disqualified as a deduction?

You can deduct it if it is to correct "defective vision". LASIK is mentioned by name at http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-dro p/rr-03-57.pdf as being for the correction of bodily disfunction and therefore a legitimate medical expense that may be deducted. For tax purposes, "cosmetic" surgery is surgery that is to make you look better to others (facelifts, breast implants, etc.), not surgery to help you see normally. a. "You can include in medical expenses the amount you pay for eye surgery to treat defective vision, such as laser eye surgery or radial keratotomy. " b. "...laser eye surgery is allowed under § 213(d)(9) because the surgery is a procedure that meaningfully promotes the proper function of the body. Vision correction with eyeglasses or contact lenses qualifies as medical care. See Rev. Rul. 74-429, 1974-2 C.B. 83. Eye surgery to correct defective vision, including laser procedures such as LASIK and radial keratotomy, corrects a dysfunction of the body. Accordingly, the cost of the laser eye surgery is an expense for medical care within the meaning of § 213(d) that B may deduct under § 213 (subject to the limitations of that section)." c. You can deduct "Surgery to improve defective vision, such as laser eye surgery". d. "The cost of items such as false teeth, prescription eyeglasses or contact lenses, laser eye surgery, hearing aids, crutches, wheelchairs, and guide dogs for the blind or deaf are deductible medical expenses." |

When will Medicaid and I'm tired of hearing that they
won't cover Lasik eye surgery
my vision is 20/100 and now
when I lose my glasses I have
to wait a long time before
they replace it and they
replace it only every 2 years.
Why won't Medi-cal and
Medicare cover lasik eye
surgery?

In my observation, I have noticed that the government is at least ten years behind medical "trends", for lack of a better word. I don't expect those two agencies to cover such a breakthrough any time soon. |
