How long after a lasik surgery I had lasik done 1 1/2 weeks
ago and the surgeon told me
that I shouldn't run or do
weight lifting/ crunches for a
month but he told me I can do
jogging. Is this true? I need
some opinions please.

I was told nothing strenuous or with any impact for a month, but that brisk walking was fine. I wouldn't take any risks - it's just not worth it. Your sight is precious. Incidentally, the foreign medical graduate comment was wildly unnecessary and somewhat racist. It seems that Aurael has not been capable of gaining a medical degree or a single vote towards a 'best answer.' Too bad. |

What is the best lasik eye When it comes to things like
this I am pretty ignorant. I
hear that there are two new
methods out there for lasik
eye surgery. Can I please get
some feedback in regards to
which procedure is the best
and why! Thanks!

There are many different kinds of LASIK. It really depends on your preference. The normal LASIK uses a blade to cut a "flap" in your cornea where another LASIK procedure is done by laser to cut the "flap". There is also laser procedures that can be done if your cornea is not thick enough to have LASIK and that is called PRK and still people may not be able to have this. The best thing to do is to schedule a free consultation with an eye doctor that does Laser Surgeries and find out if you are a candidate for them. Many people find out they aren't candidates for any laser surgeries anyways. Hope this helps!! |

I got laser vision surgery last winter and have not had any problems. It took me ages to get up the nerves to get the surgery performed, now I am glad I did. I spent several visits at the clinic inquiring about how the procedures work (Lasik vs PRK) and how it would affect me. My Delaware eye doctor was very comforting. Try visiting your local Arizona laser vision clinic and make an appointment for a free consultation. http://www.locallaservisioncen ters.com/Arizona-Laser-Vision- Correction.html Hope this helps |

How come the doctors who Someone said to me, "if lasik
surgery is so effective, then
how come the doctors doing it
still wear glasses? Why don't
they get it done too?" So now
I am wondering the same thing.

Do some reading up on the possible complications associated with the surgery, and you can pretty much figure it out. Although it's not a high percentage, some folks experience halos and double vision afterwards. It also increases the likelyhood you will need bifocals later on. Opthamologists make their living using their eyes, and they aren't likely to take any chances with messing them up. It doesn't necessarily mean that it's not a good option for other folks, but it could end their careers- so they stick with glasses. It's not much different than a singer with a deviated septum electing not to have the nose job because it will change how their voice sounds. For you or I, that's not a big deal. But when you make your living as an opera star- well, that's a different story. You aren't going to do anything you don't absolutely have to do, because it could mean an end to your career. Opthamologists take pretty much the same view of lasik surgery. |

Pencil Exercise Hold a pencil arms length in front of you. Really focus on the tip of that pencil. Once you have it focussed, very slowly move it towards you whilst still maintaining the focus. See how close you can get it before losing this focus. Swinging Focus on a distant object, swaying gently from side to side. Do this for a few minutes every day, blinking as you sway. The blinking helps clean and lubricates the eyes, which is especially important if you spend a lot of time in front of a computer. Clothesline Japanese studies show that this exercise can significantly improve your eyesight if done regularly. Place a picture on a clothesline. Stand about a foot away from it and focus on the picture whilst it is (probably rapidly) moving. Move back a foot and repeat. Continue with this until you are about 10 feet away. Candle Exercise Eye sight is not just about your eyes. It is also about the eye brain relationship. Your brain must interpret what the eyes pick up. This exercise aims to improve the brain/eye connection. Put your self in a quiet, dark place and look at a lighted candle. Focus your attention at the blue part of the flame and blink gently. After a minute or two try to imagine the lighted flame with your eyes closed. If the visualization is not perfect, again look at the blue part of the flame and try to imagine the same without making any effort. When you are able to visualize the flame in your imagination open your eyes. Colour Day Choose a colour and look out for it throughout the day wherever you go. When you see the particular colour, be aware of it. Don’t bother concentrating on the shape of the object, just experience the colour and it’s subtle shadings. This again should help the eye/brain connection. Sunning Try to do this daily. It may be difficult if you live somewhere like the UK! Close your eyes. Look directly at the sun through your closed eyes. While facing the sun, slowly rotate your head from side to side as far as you can. This gets the sunlight on the peripheral vision, and it helps bring more blood circulation to your neck. Do this for a few minutes. Enjoy the warming soothing feeling of the sun on your eyes. Eye Massage This exercise helps improve the blood circulation to the eye muscles. |
