I graduated from an online school and am happy with my degree - and it is recognized just like any other degree. I attended both Rio Salado Community College Online and AIU Online and my online degree was sufficient to get me into law school!! If the university is accredited, it is just as good as a brick-and-morter school. Making sure the school is accredited is the most important thing. Try http://ope.ed.gov/accreditatio n/Search.asp I chose Rio Salado for the core courses because it is much more affordable than many other online programs and I was really impressed with them. They actually had science courses with labs - they mailed the lab materials to me to work with at home! Their foreign language courses included phone calls with the instructors to practice speaking and videos to watch to listen to the language. If they offered a four year degree, I would have continued with them... but they only go as far as the Associate's Degree. I highly recommend them! AIU is alot more expensive, but I liked their program. The instructors were all knowledgeable and helpful and I got a great deal out of it. My husband is currently going to Mountain State University Online. Tuition is more than Rio Salado, but much less than AIU. He isn't particularly impressed with the classes, though. You can expect that the classes will take some real work. Earning a degree takes effort, but it is worth it! The flexibility of an online program is really nice for those of us who want to work and/or raise kids while also completing school. There are lots of programs out there, so do your research to find the best one for you. Make sure it is accredited (a diploma mill that is unaccredited will not give you a real degree). Good luck!! http://www.ed.gov/admins/finai d/accred/index.html |

how does getting a degree online compare to getting a traditional college degree in the workplace?
I would like to further my
education in the medical field
but, have no time to go to a
traditional college. I was
thinking about getting my
degree for lpn online but, am
concerned that it might be a
waste of time when it comes to
actually getting hired.

I don't think you can get an LPN online. You can get Associate in Nursing from Excelsior College and take the state boards for RN. It is easier to pass the clinical if you can become an LPN first. http://www.excelsior.edu |

There are a lot of good, flexible distance degree programs offered by traditional colleges, and a few for-profit colleges such at University of Phoenix. Spend some time researching these. But I have to warn you... do *not* make speed your first criteria for choosing a degree program. You'll pay for it in the end. The fastest programs are often less reputable, and many online degrees (such as the one advertised in email spam) are completely worthless. Contrary to popular belief, a college degree is *not* valuable primarily because of the piece of paper you get at the end. It's valuable primarily because you actually do get a substantial amount of training in four years of college, and employers tend to hire people and pay them better when they know they've come from a reputable program in their field. So while speed and convenience might be your second-most important factor, never let it take the place of quality. Employers do pay attention. |

Has anyone ever acheived their college degree online?
I am thinking of getting my
Bachelors degree online. Is
there anyone out there who has
done this or tried distance
education. How did you like
it, were there any drawbacks
for you and any other info
would be of much help. I am
looking to do this soon and I
have researched it throughly,
but an outside opinion from
others who have done it would
help me out alot.

I have not but if it is from a reputable college then it would be a good way to go for people who do not go to college for the social aspect of going. |
