Perhaps you could do some searches. This will point you in the right direction. Use important key words, but first you'll need Yahoo! Messenger to do it within yahoo. There will be ways to surf into what you want, too. |

What are the legalities of The Sisters of Notre Dame want
to run a chat room in order to
attract potential new members.
What do they need to know so
that they can be covered by
the law if something were to
go wrong...so they they as an
instition, would not be held
legally responsible?

It would be wise to: 1) Require people to sign up for accounts 2) Require users to be of legal age 3) Advise users that the Sisters of Notre Dame are providing this chat room as a free service, and that they disclaim any and all liability for the acts of other users. 4) Set forth a list of rules and regulations for good behavior, and require users to agree to them as a condition of using the chatroom. That should cover 99% of it. You can never be 100% protected, because someone always has the option to sue...all you can do is try to lock things down and ensure you win if they do. Another thought: As part of starting this chatroom, consider starting a Limited Liability Corporation (L.L.C.) owned by the Sisters of Notre Dame. Have THAT entity run the chatroom. Why? The L.L.C. would be the entity subject to suit for the chatroom's activities. That L.L.C. would have no money, so it wouldn't be a fun target to sue. The L.L.C. wouldn't even need to own any equipment, it would just be the activity running the chat room. Cheaper than insurance, anyway :) |

How to shut down the chat room Yes the guys are guilty but
its also the chat room and
websites that allow them to
prey on the kids. I think a
lot of people are involved not
just the predators. parents
should monitor their kids!

Uh...with freedom comes responsibility. You can't have them without someone taking advantage. Parents have to know what their kids are doing; websites need to monitor as well. |
