Separate luggage flights for I see that NASA is planning to
replace the Space Shuttle with
a dual system, sending cargo
and supplies up in one rocket
and returning to the classic
style with crew and capsule
modules in a second rocket.
Cheaper and more efficient,
and allows for different
systems needs for the
different payloads.
Doesn't this also make sense
for airline travel? At any
given time, there are multiple
airline companies flying from
and to the exact same
destinations only minutes
apart.
Why not have specific planes
dedicated to carrying all the
main luggage (cargo)? Then the
passenger flights would have
absolutely NO carry-on luggage
on board, only handbags and
laptop type cases. Security is
streamlined, since the
screening is so much simpler,
and the passenger planes can
dedicate themselves to
passenger services.
Smaller jets could carry cargo
(coverted corp jets), so
they'd get there faster. Your
luggage would be waiting.

The only problem with this is your last sentence. Airlines lose luggage. Period. |

I had very good experiences with Northwest Airlines. United Airlines gave me mixed experiences though. It was fine from Las Vegas to Los Angeles, but the plane was really hot and stuffy when I was traveling from Orlando to New York. |

is one day of the week better are there some days that are
cheaper than the others for
airline travel across country?

Typically mid-week (tuesday - thursday) are cheaper days to travel. However, sometimes you can find cheaper airfare on Monday, but this is mostly with international flights. |

What is the best airline to I travel once a year for about
a month from Boston to
Phoenix. What is the best
airline to travel with my
golden retriever (100 lbs)?
Should I do anything to him to
calm him? I've heard an
excedrin helps but I don't
want to harm him.
Do airlines have restrictions
on what months he can fly? I
fly to Phoenix in December and
leave back to Boston in
January. Is that going to be a
problem?

Should I worry about my I just bought a 29" Dockers
rolling/spinning suitcase, and
I like it a lot. However, it
is large. It measures 20" wide
x 29" tall x 11" thick, plus
expands another 2" thick. The
measurements total 60" if I
don't use the expansion
capability. Most airlines seem
to have a 62" limit on size
and 44 pounds - after which
they will charge you.
I haven't traveled much (but I
plan to from now on) and I'm
going to China in October. I
am worried that this suitcase
is too big and I will get
charged extra. Air China's
limits are 62" and 44 pounds.
I thought about loading it up
and weighing it (will do
tomorrow), but I thought I'd
ask people if they own a
suitcase of this size and if
they have or have not had
problems with checking it in
on various airlines.
I guess I could return it and
buy the next smaller size, but
my trip is for 12 days so I
feel like I need a larger bag.
Any and all advice is
appreciated!

Yes, worry about it...especially traveling to China. We traveled with a lot of stuff as it was an adoption trip and we were charged at every stop along the way...not for size but for weight. So, lay out everything you want to bring on your bed, then take away half of it. Yes, half of it. China has Walmart and you can get anything you forget there. Plus...don't laugh...the laundry service is great! Don't use the hotel laundry. Go out on the street, find a laundry and negotiate. Your clothes will come back individually bagged and pressed....even my t-shirts were pressed. It was really nice because it was so hot when we were there that you could wear everything once and it had to be washed. There was no double-duty on that trip. Take comfortable, casual clothes and comfortable shoes. Have a great time. |
