Will you consider addiction I need your take on this. How
can addiction treatment
possibly benefit society as a
whole and not just the addict?
I'm planning to do an essay on
this for extra credit in one
of my classes. I just want to
know the opinions of others.
Thanks.

Yes. I will definitely consider addiction treatment to be one of the factors that can lead to the betterment of society. Addiction treatment benefits society because for every addict that is treated for his addiction, there is one individual that is brought back to sobriety and productivity. This causes repercussions of good change, which, though small, can make a big difference if there are many others treated. Furthermore, drug addicts are a lot more likely to be afflicted with and spread diseases such as HIV and AIDS. They are also more prone to showcasing violent behavior. If they will undergo addiction treatment, such circumstances can be avoided. |

Drug addiction is really a serious issue. As a matter of fact, it really is one of the pressing problems of modern society, if not a curse. And it's not only a curse to the society per se but to the people who are drug addicts themselves. As we all know, addiction, if left untreated can eventually lead to death. That's why I'm happy for you because your man took the initiative to get himself treated in an addiction treatment center. That's probably the wisest decision he has made. Finding an addiction treatment center should not be a problem these days, you know. There are a lot of private centers as well as those that were established by the government and socio-civic groups. What's even great is that these addiction treatment centers make sure that the patients will gain back their confidence, their self-esteem, and most importantly, their lives back. Most addiction treatments are also fit to suit the needs of each patient. Looking for one should also be easy because I'm pretty much sure there's one that's close to your home. So, I wish you and your boyfriend the best! |

How to persuade or convince a I know there are people out
there who would say that the
person has to hit rock bottom
first, that he has to do it on
his own... But I have heard of
cases wherein the addict was
forced to undergo addiction
treatment, and that worked
well. I just want to convince
my sister to get herself
treated for her alcohol
addiction.

I think it's really good that you're so concerned about the welfare of your sister. You see, a lot of people who are dependent upon a substance don't realize that they have a problem. One thing I think you can do is to talk to her when she's sober. If that doesn't work, then maybe you should do an alcohol intervention for her. You can talk to an intervention specialist about this. This is a process aimed to get the person to undergo treatment. Good luck! |

What are the medications being I have an acquaintance who
does heroin and have just
started going to an addiction
treatment program. I was
surprised to know that they
are being made to take
medication. What is this for
and what are the usual drugs
that are used for addiction
treatments.

Methadone is the drug usually used for heroin addiction. Medication is needed in order to return the body and brain's functioning back to its normal, healthy state. It also suppresses withdrawal symptoms and relieves craving, thus keeping the patient from wanting to take heroin again. Other medications used for addiction treatment are buprenorphine, naltrexone, and naloxone (for cases of overdose). There are also some other drugs that are being studied by experts to determine if they will be effective in the treatment of heroin addiction. |
