Who proved spontaneous I am doing a science report on
how Rudolf Virchow contributed
to cell theory. He is famous
for saying that all cells come
from pre-existing cells. But I
recall from a chapter in the
book "Microbe Hunters"(1926)
that Spallanzani had done
this. So, who was responsible
for the part in the cell
theory that states that cells
have "parents?" Thanks for
help.

Robert Hooke was the first to study and record cells by using a microscope. ... Anton van Leeuwenhoek-Made several key discoveries in biology at the microscopic level, such as the existence of bacteria and other single cell phenomena. Rudolf Virchow was a major advocate of the cell theory and published an influential theory that cells arose from each other in a continuous series of generations ("Omnis cellula e cellula"). Robert Brown, who named the cell nucleus in 1827. ... If I had to pick one I think I would choose Virchow |

Robert Hooke and Virchow.?
I have to do a 1 1/2 page
essay on their contributions
to biology, not their
biography but their
contributions. If anybody
could help me out on a sight
that has enough information on
them to make an essay I'd
appreciate it.

Robert Hooke:- wrote Micrographia, the first book describing observations made through a microscope. One of the most neglected natural philosophers of all time. The inventor of, amongst other things, the iris diaphragm in cameras, the universal joint used in motor vehicles, the balance wheel in a watch, the originator of the word 'cell' in biology, he was Surveyor of the City of London after the Great Fire of 1666, architect, experimenter, worked in astronomy - yet is known mostly for Hooke's Law. http://www.roberthooke.com/ http://inventors.about.com/lib rary/inventors/blroberthooke.h tm http://www.roberthooke.org.uk/ http://micro.magnet.fsu.edu/op tics/timeline/people/hooke.htm l Virchow:- Rudolf Ludwig Karl Virchow was among the greatest minds in medicine in the 19th century. As a result of his hard work and determination, great strides were made in the fields of pathological and physiological medicine http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R udolf_Virchow http://www.mnsu.edu/emuseum/in formation/biography/uvwxyz/vir chow_rudolf.html Hope that helps.
