What is the stereotype ofseeing a psychiatrist?
Why is it when it is known you are a patient of psychiatrist, it wouldn't look good on you? After all, many of us face problems time and again and shouldn't we see someone to talk it out? So why the stigma and stereotype?
it's simply because people fear and reject things they do not understand and it used to be that only the extremes when to doctors everything else people were forced to just "grin and bare it"
How do I get a boy of acompletely diffrent stereotypeto like me?
I am considered the smart, not nerdy, but smart stereotype. The boy I want to like me is under the popular somewhat jock group. How in the world do I get him to like me and ask me out?
well, u cant get people to like u, if he is shallow and wont date u cuz ur not "popular enough" hes not even worth ur time. try saying hi to him sometime and make small casual conversation if u guys click the coversation shuld flow naturally. im sure u will find a way to talk to him if u put ur mind to it...just remember u shouldnt have to change urself to be with him... never change cuz someone wants u to change cuz u want to and cuz its the best thing for u. good luck! alexa x
When is something a stereotypeinstead of a cultural trait?
It seems when you make a comment about certain groups of people it is always considered a stereotype, but when you say something like, "Middle Eastern people have a different concept of personal space than westerners." It is considered a cultural trait? Can't there be cultural traits for different cultures living in the same area?
I'm definitely no expert on the topic, but I imagine a cultural trait is something that can be shown, using science and/or statistics, to be specifically apparent in the majority of cases for the given population. A serious study would be one that not only recognized the trait, but also tried to explain its existence; its cause; its effects; and, possibly, a solution, if one is required. Whether it be a genetic trait, cultural, religious, environmental or whatever. Using your example, "Middle Eastern people have a different concept of personal space than westerners.", in order for it to be a cultural trait instead of a stereotype, one would first have to take a poll on a variety of stances regarding "personal space" in Westerners, do the same for Middle-Easterners, then have a team of sociologists analyze the results of the poll for the criteria I listed above, in order to explain the phenomenon, if any. Whereas a stereotype is the perceived traits of a particular group, generally with no facts to back it up. With the necessary evidence, "stereotype" and "cultural trait" could be used interchangeably, but "stereotype" generally has a more negative stigma attached to it.
What would someone stereotypea person as?
I was just wondering what stereotype was because someone asked me, "what are you normally stereotyped as?" I don't have a clue what stereotyped means. Thank you in advance for any answers.
a stereotype is a label with characteristics that people put on others to describe who they are without people even knowing them. like if one was to say "jock": you might think of strong, dumb, and goodlooking. if someone said "nerd" you might think of glasses, funny voices, no friends, and chess club. these are all stereotypes put on people based mostly on looks. in one of my classes, we were going over stereotypes of 'girl', 'boy', 'jock', and 'honors student'. i am a girl, honors student, and jock. the different stereotypes in the three lists contradicted each other, but i am all three. some people do match the stereotypes. i matched some of them, but not all of them.
